A must-read, if you believe that the Government of Alberta should be held accountable to keeping Alberta's water clean, clear (and drinkable!) for communities, at-risk species, and our environment.

The British empire was an evil empire. They didn't spread freedom or liberty, they didn't spread civilization, and they didn't spread good governance.
That's the 'truth' part.
The Canadian legal system is still searching for a way to process that and adjust its self-understanding.

Better late than never: our 18 pp (!) analysis of #ableg's so-called Mature Asset Strategy (w/ Shaun Fluker and @drewyewchuk.bsky.social). TLDR: the MAS is a thinly disguised attempt to rewrite the origin story of Alberta's O&G closure liability crisis and to push more gov't support & deregulation.

Alberta's new electricity market is a further blow to renewables and could increase power bills. All of the uncertainty created by the government and the new market reforms have also put a chill on investment. We break it down. thenarwhal.ca/alberta-rest... #ableg #cdnpoli

For anyone not in Alberta or not paying attention, girls playing sports in school now have to prove they were born female to play sports. And can be challenged by anyone at anytime and must prove they are female to keep playing. This doesn’t apply to boys. What a dystopian hellscape

Alphabow was unsuccessful in getting the court to modify their subscription agreement to retain a CO2 Stream Purchase and Sale Agreement in AlphaBow Energy Ltd (Re), 2025 ABKB 550 canlii.ca/t/kfk64

The subscription agreement and RVO are incredibly complex.

This is the legislative equivalent of calling a flooded basement “a water feature” – it misuses an established term to conceal something unwanted. (4/4)
drewyewchuk.bsky.social
This introduces confusion into Canadian laws: the new 'Supporting Authorized Access to Information Act' does not support the ‘Access to Information Act’ and has the opposite purpose.
It should be titled the “Strengthening Government Search Warrants Act” or “Weakening Privacy Act”.(3/4)
drewyewchuk.bsky.social
‘Access to Information’ is the phrase used for laws giving the public some rights to know what government is doing, but part 15 of Bill C-2 uses the phrase for giving the government more power to examine the public’s information. (2/4)

A great post of the damage to Canadian privacy in Bill C-2.
I would add a smaller complaint: part 15 of Bill C-2 misappropriates the phrase 'Access to Information' in the new 'Supporting Authorized Access to Information Act'. (1/4)

We don't need to wait for the IJC's decision on the merits in the genocide case brought by South Africa against the state of Israel. States, including Canada @mark-carney.bsky.social must act on what we know now
& BTW where is the CBC's coverage of this report?

Critics say the decision challenges the Alberta Energy Regulator’s credibility in a province ruled by a political party committed to fast-tracking resource development.

A complex new wrinkle in the Alphabow bankruptcy: they are now in a legal dispute with MEGlobal Canada ULC about the ability to transfer a CO₂ purchase agreement as part of a reverse vesting order.
I cannot tell how it will end, but it will cause more delay.

Instead of fixing industry's capture and control of the AER, the plan is to hand the AER completely over to industry capture and control. I anticipate absolutely deranged regulatory decisions in the next few months. (2/2)

The War Room has a propaganda piece for the new AER CEO. The key quote from Yager is :
“The conclusion everybody involved in the review came to is the AER is an independent regulator that needed more direct industry participation, so here we are.” (1/2)

Gobsmacked by a decision (August 21) of the new CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator to overrule a hearing panel's decision on a matter under the panel's active consideration.
I have news for Mr Morgan. He is not god and he does not have the "absolute discretion" he claims to have.

The AER quietly provided an updated official liability figure for conventional oil and gas: "As of August 2025, the total estimated liability is about $37.9 billion",up from $36 billion in July 2024.
