"The new buses bill will finally put a halt to the decimation of socially necessary services [...] This is a good first step in the right direction, but more local action is needed"

- Prof @drkarenlucas.bsky.social, Director of @mui-uom.bsky.social reacts to the Bus Services Bill.
Government protects thousands of miles of bus services from being scrapped
Bus Services Bill will give local leaders the power to shape the bus services their communities rely on.

Registered vehicles on UK roads:

1991: 20 million

2023: 41.2 million

Congestion is caused — and air pollution and climate change is made worse — not by cycleways or LTNs, but by too many motor vehicles.

As the oligarchy begins to take shape, this meme seems more prescient than ever. They have convinced you that immigrants are your enemy while they pick your pockets at the same time, you’ve been duped. It’s the billionaires who are ruining this country, not migrants. Always has been. #RiseAndResist

This study adds to the growing body of evidence about the impact of solid fuel burning on air quality. Now how to change people's minds because I still see people proudly posting pictures of their cosy fire? As I said yesterday I am that disappointed guy...

My presentation at the excellent, TRANSPORT Smart Class, Wales & West of England, Cardiff, last week.
This is my keynote presentation highlighting that we need to see transport much more from a person-based perspective, bring in the social and bring in community.

New study from IIHS shows that car bloat is dangerous even at low speeds:

If hit by a sedan going 27 mph, a pedestrian has a 60% chance of a moderate+ injury and 30% chance of a serious one.

If it's a pickup going 27 mph, those odds rise to 83% and 63%, respectively.

Vehicle height compounds dangers of speed for pedestrians
New pedestrian injury risk curves calculated by IIHS show that vehicles with taller front ends begin to cause serious injuries at lower speeds.

Whose knowledge matters? In her talk for the Urban Studies crew at @uofglasgow.bsky.social this week, @itsbethperry.bsky.social argued we must reframe the idea of 'co-production' in research.

Rather than seeing it as a 'democratic fix', co-production must redress epistemic injustice in the city.
