My current position on Bananza's Pauline is that she isn't the same character as the adult Pauline from other Mario and Donkey Kong games - she is likely a relative with the same name.
Bananza is not a prequel, nor is it in the far future. It's contemporary with other current Mario games.

I dislike misanthropy.
I get that it's tempting to be all, "Ugh, humanity sucks" when you see people doing something cruel or destructive, but I really think most people are good.
Don't resign yourself to humanity (and by extension you) being hopelessly terrible. Believe we can be good, and do it.

I'm happy I never got into Harry Potter. A local friend tried to get me into it years before we knew JKR was the way she is - but after giving the first two books an honest try, they really weren't for me.

I saw a thread that was like "We need to be meaner to [people with X inborn characteristic] because they voted for [bad policy]."
I won't get more specific than that, but I think that's incredibly stupid. Not everyone in that group voted the same way. We can't help what we are, only *who* we are.

![Long ago, a congregation of crocodiles made their way deep,
deep underground - and there found a power that would change
them, and the course of the world around them, forever.
Thanks to the vent of energy in Krocodile Kore, the Kremlings evolved
into a diverse and powerful species, developing an advanced ancient
society. But while the fortunes of the Krempire ebbed and flowed
through the ages, nothing in their history would prove so disastrous
as the rool of a certain Kaptain-King, whose unprecedented greed
led him to provoke the young leader of their neighboring island.
After all, what could those flea-bitten apes do against
the mighty army of tooth and scale and klaw?
And thus begins the story as we can witness it. It is a tale of defeat,
destruction, and despair: a story of baddies in a cartoon platformer
series who feel the suffering and consequences of their rotten ruler
and his poor decisions; who directly reflect their king's follies in
their fates and their forms - whose change in status and fortune
can be directly traced from game to game. It is a tale of misery
and mockery; a people who lost their strength and their homeland,
cut off from the powers that created them, in-universe and out:
forced to lie low, go into hiding, and disappear entirely.
But ultimately, it is a tale of revenge, recovery, and revival. The
earth shakes, the jungle trembles: the Kremlings are back in action.

I love that the Donkey Kong Wiki is pretty much 70% fanfiction, so you end up with Youtubers stumbling across it as a valid research source and the they end up citing nonexistent events like the Great Ape War in their Donkey Kong video.

As a kid I assumed it had something to do with "More fun than a barrel of monkeys" but I doubt that's an idiom in Japanese.
Someone emailed me asking if I knew why Donkey Kong throws barrels and I was like "Well obviously it's because..." and then I wasn't actually sure why, aside from the fact that they roll and would be something you might see on a construction site. Did barrel throwing happen before Donkey Kong?
