Sega of America's "2nd generation" Dreamcast aesthetic was a tremendous downgrade. The white packaging was bold, unique, a perfect fit for the system's future-focused Y2K vibe.

The black just looks like they're trying to trick people into thinking these are PlayStation games so they might buy them.

He says it so *casually*, like it's not the greatest thing I've ever seen.
Not really interested in decorating hotel rooms. It’d be cool if there were new bugs/fish to catch. Just wish it was time for a new game.

I did get to see this menace though. And my WCW Bash at the Beach arena is still here.

My favorite's still the GameCube! That pressure-SNAP, so good.

Handhelds feel like cheating (portability being a concern and all), but by far the worst triggers I've ever used on a major console are the PS3's. They should've just given us the boomerang if they couldn't do any better than that.

Yeah, 2D on consoles was pretty dead that gen, which is probably partly why I was going through my cynical "video games have lost their SOUL" era.

(mostly it was just because of what happened to the Dreamcast, though - coincidentally yet another 6th gen console with a really pants d-pad!)
Luckily I don't recall the Gamecube's D-pad being used for a whole lot.

> Favorite and least-favorite d-pad?

Favorite is easy: Sega Saturn. Not even a contest.

Least is tougher. The worst I've ever used is the R-Zone, but that doesn't even really count as a video game. So counting only the major consoles of the "big four"...

We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.

I'm stuck in a parking lot waiting for a scheduled phone call, if you want to help me pass the time by submitting anything.
Gonna try something a little different with this: Send me what you think is an unpopular opinion or a gaming hot take that you have! (questions are still fine too!)

Just finished Megaman 4 in one go...

*Without* ever looking at Mandi Paugh's Mega Man Homepage.

I'm a professional now.

Haha, yeah, I mean, that *was* reality for me!

I Game Over'd in Chemical Plant, Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, Metropolis, Wing Fortress, then OVER AND OVER in Death Egg, and every time I had to play the ENTIRE GAME ALL OVER AGAIN from the start.

Superstars seems positively gregarious in comparison!

It was *supposed* to be, and it was promoted that way, but then they misprinted the discs and they weren't actually different. So they fixed it, but made no effort to distinguish which one was which. You had to carefully examine the shrinkwrap.

But yes day one patches are killing games.

I love this!
The thing that's really cute about the Japanese title is the second Rockman on the title screen actually changes to the name of the last character you played as. So you could have "Rockman Cutman", "Rockman Elecman", "Rockman Roll-chan", "Rockman Blues", etc.

The first revision of Sonic 2 crashed if you bounced from a rock onto a Rexon in Hilltop Zone.

Can you imagine how insufferable Twitter and ragebait SonicTubers would have been about that if they had existed in 1992?

I'm thinking top of B-rank for Powered Up. Also the Japanese name is "Rockman Rockman" and that's beautiful.

I don't mind GOATed at all, but "mid" can die in a fire.

And now the Venn Diagram is complete.
This is me, but I also include mid.
When I hear someone use the word "goated" I think less of them. I don't like this about myself

> What four classic video games to you find yourself replaying no matter how old they are?

"Short but infinitely replayable video games" is my favorite genre so I have way more than four.

I like playing on original hardware when I can, but emulation has gotten more than good enough over the decades. Especially with something like Megaman Legacy Collection, where it includes QoL and bonus features/challenges.
