This seems like a good time to remember that most of America's railroads are privately owned
I remain mystified why anyone would not want to have train service that could connect New York and Washington in 52 minutes or a 59 minute Chicago-Detroit train.

What if instead of general strikes, we start sending shockwaves by switching to cash whenever possible?

Transaction, NSF and interest fees, and data brokerage are incredibly lucrative, quiet ways financial markets siphon wealth. What if we started disrupting those a little?

Fun fact: When Chicago is mentioned in dystopian fiction, the context is almost always in resistance to authoritarianism
As immigration raids sweep Chicago, some families stay home in fear. Others fight back—organizing legal aid, workshops & neighborhood patrols. "My kids don’t deserve to see their mother hiding."

Residents worry about leaving their homes, but many in the city are organizing legal aid, workshops and virtual services

Pretty sure the plan is to sit back, watch the suffering, cry foul, and fundraise

100% of the efforts to protect immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQIA+, elderly, disabled, and vulnerable are grassroots orgs. Please donate accordingly
Not gonna lie I did kinda expect our Democratic politicians to have something like a plan to counter the 920-page detailed fascist blueprint that was published in April 2023

We keep advocating for immigrants by morally asserting no person is illegal (💯), but neglect to also highlight that without manufactured scarcity (rich not paying their fair share) and "solutions" that create more scarcity no one would care about paperwork

Chicago City Hall is owed billions of dollars it hasn’t managed to collect
A Sun-Times analysis finds that thousands of scofflaws — many from the suburbs — have dodged city debts over the years, depriving City Hall of a massive sum of money as Mayor Brandon Johnson faces ste...

I would have been eviscerated in college for presenting something so lazy and suburban. Chicago really needs to bring back design competitions. There is too much talent in this city to keep letting corporations phone in multimillion dollar projects

Aspen, Cyprus, and Maple enjoying the new bean bag chair. Growing up in my office beats growing up in the shelter, but the kittens are ready for their forever homes!

As much as I'd love to keep them, that would one less foster for the cats still at CACC.

There's a lot of talk about how there's a conservative backlash coming in the next mayoral election, but it really feels like Chicago has yet to actally elect a progressive post-Daley mayor

..failed to fully execute Build Back Better, refused to reform SCOTUS, dropped the ball on environmental protections, ignored the migrant crisis, went far right on immigration, failed at student loan forgiveness, did not secure our food supply, increased militarization of our police forces, and GAZA
The Harris admin did nothing to distance itself from the Biden admin – who ended the Child Tax Credit, raised interest rates during a time when potential first-time homebuyers already couldn't afford a home, didn't codify Roe, facilitated 8% inflation for a time, and helped kill countless Gazans.
