"Rachel Reeves unblocked a development of 20,000 homes that were being held up by a rare snail, after being approached by a developer with whom she said, 'we have a good relationship'

Not only stupid and ignorant, but crooked with it

Indefensible

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

It really does say something about the state of the country when a statement issued by a retired footballer regarding the fake patriotism and engineered outrage of the flag fondlers is more eloquent, coherent and rational than that managed by the prime minister.

Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...

'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'
peterwalker99.bsky.social
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Ah, now we're talking! As a geologist and local resident, I'm bagging first dibs on staring into any hole that develops in future!

Still, it probably wouldn't be as exciting as the green slime/skating rink pavement on Dallas Road. Used to mentally calculate odds on pedestrians staying upright!
dunite.bsky.social
Well, I suppose it's better than being murdered in your bed or assailed with a batter pudding...

Dammit! We're out of gin and, for lack of resilience/fear of being blown to Garstang, I'm forced to rely on rum and vodka!

And never forget the sense of excitement among bus users when we wondered where we'd have to catch our buses when the UU building works closed the bus station. It proved *so* popular they even went and did it again, much to the delight of commuters! Twice the thrills! See, UU *do* care!
dunite.bsky.social
I still think we should consider ourselves fortunate. If it weren't for UU's impeccable maintainance, nay expansion, of their infrastructure, we could easily find that the taps run dry. And they need to go the extra mile because it obviously never rains up here (do *not* look out of your window...).
dunite.bsky.social
Yeah, but at least we have a secure, unfailing supply of clean(-ish) water on demand. Please kindly overlook the minor inconvenience a few years back when we had no water for the best part of a week. And just ignore the fact it was the Council who provided emergency water while UU ran away to hide!
dunite.bsky.social
'tis but a snip! A real bargain! I simply don't understand how you can begrudge paying the fine folk United Utilities for keeping our taps running. I mean, surely a teeny bit of profit gouging is a small price to pay for keeping our beaches clean & refraining from dumping shit in our rivers. Oh...
dunite.bsky.social
I, for one, would like to sincerely thank @moderation.bsky.app for their fine work in shielding the innocent from such depraved images.

Ironic, isn't it, that climate denial & the anti-immigrant brigade always seem to converge?! And trying to convince them trends that have emerged just during my lifetime would've taken plate tectonics hundreds of thousands of years to produce is, ultimately, seemingly futile. It's so disheartening!

I do wonder how the children of those most culpable for the mess will feel. I'm not entirely convinced they'll view inheriting financial wealth at the cost of viable ecosystem as being a good deal.

Floodplain meadows are rich both in fungi and carbon stored in the soil. Our co-created research project looks at fungal communities in meadows influence long-term sequestration, and whether we can seed meadows with the right fungi to store even more! 🍄

Yet corporate lobbying for the status quo or, at best, tinkering around the edges, has lulled so many folk into denial. I'm a geologist by training; I wish I had a quid for every time I've countered 'the climate's always been changing' argument by pointing out the rate of change is unprecedented.
dunite.bsky.social
That's the thing; I can't understand corporations succumbing to the lure of short-term profits, no matter how huge, when no one is going to be impervious to climate breakdown. And there would almost certainly have been greater financial gains to be made from responding to the emergency anyway.
dunite.bsky.social
Imagine how different things could've been if governments had heeded the warnings. If they'd invested strategically & used a bit of imagination to tackle the threat. But no, kicking the issue into the long grass & pandering to those lobbying climate denial won. We're literally now paying the price.
dunite.bsky.social
Around 30 years ago, I studied Science Matters, an OU module designed to teach assessment of data & critical thinking. It included a section on climate change; the data from IPCC etc. even back then was truly scary. Governmental failure to take radical action in all that time is utterly scandalous.
