Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

Keeping up with the UCP government's democratic transgressions can be difficult.

But not impossible.

Here’s a running list since Danielle Smith became premier. 🧵👇

How about you just put your money towards reducing class sizes and paying teachers fairly instead of making plans to undermine them??

Report: At this point we are just trying to figure who Canadian Parliament WON'T give a standing ovation to
OTTAWA - After members of the Canadian Parliament earlier today gave a standing ovation to recently deceased far-right agitator who touted white supremacist theories, Charlie Kirk, we here at The Beaverton are stuck trying to figure out if there’s literally anyone our elected officials won’t celebrate.

Hi. I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating: we have to be able to criticize Mark Carney without living in fear that doing so will help Poilievre or weaken Canada. He is our Prime Minister. Out of anyone, he deserves to be watched and critiqued. We should all be dying on this hill.

30ºC at 1PM makes that 5 in-a-row, when the old record for this time of year was only 3.
5 in-a-row is also the 3rd longest streak for any point of the year. July 2022 & 2021 both went 7 days, and June 1961 went 6.
#yegwx #yeg
...so far we've had 4 30°C days in-a-row, which is a new record for this late in the year. 2024, 2022 & 1967 all got to 3.
And we've had 3 32°C days in-a-row, which is a new record for late-summer. 2022 & 1940 got to 2.

I wouldn't tell anyone else how to think or feel, but I will just say that, for me, the only way to stay sane after the 2024 election has been to pretty much abandon hope. The US is cooked. Everything I value about it is doomed. We're heading into a long period of dissolution & chaos.

Interesting study from Germany on e-bikes and the modes they replace:

"43.1% of electric bicycle trips and 63.2% of electric bicycle mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions"
Further, steeper, greener: Implications from an electric bicycle mode choice model

4. Bikes should have priority. No unneeded stop signs for cyclists since cars are the threat on the roads.
5. Bike detectors that keep cyclists flowing would improve the experience.
6. Proactive enforcement to ensure that cars parked in the bike lane are removed quickly would help.

We have some thoughts:
1. Bike lanes aren't protected if cars have to pass through them to park.
2. Bike lanes are useless in the winter if they are not cleared quickly, and kept clear.
3. Transition points should be cargo bike friendly: no huge bumps, no tight turns.

You might as well play chess with a pigeon.

You can spend forever trying to be reasonable and make accommodations, but the pigeon is just going to shit on the board, knock pieces over, and strut around like they're winning.
