i also like that they promote repair culture. imo, even when people buy quality things, they are too quick to ditch and replace when things look shabby

i love furniture restoration videos because they show how quality is important and you can get some really beautiful, overlooked furniture if you learn certain skills

About to finish the book (speculative fiction). Given how tumultuous publishing is, I’m wondering if I should even try and go the traditional route. I have a small existing following but I’m not known for fiction at all. Should I attempt it? Should I self publish? I just don’t know.

This is such an amazing review from @ruthjoffre.bsky.social at @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social! "The stories in We Will Rise Again offer readers a glimpse of not just how things are now but also how they could be. They present worlds where we solve problems collectively..."
Fantastical Transcendence and the Magic of Resistance | Los Angeles Review of Books
Ruth Joffre digs into a new anthology of speculative writing about resistance, edited by Karen Lord, Annalee Newitz, and Malka Older.

One of my favorite presents ever—my dad found and framed this pic of my mother @sunminkimes.bsky.social at a Seattle courthouse after she passed her US citizenship test in 1981. Like so many of the people who come here to start a new life, she is the best of us—the bravest, strongest person I know.

Ppl are not refusing to enter society we are in society but responsibly it's society that wants us to disappear. Sorry, not sorry if you feel guilty.

Looks like this got me added, unironically, to a Christmas-themed starter pack. Such is my punishment.
Update to the update: wife just accused me of violating the Skellington Accords, aka the Treaty of Halloweentown, the shaky truce that ended the war on Christmas and made Armistice Day the official start of Xmas season

I am obliged to pay the penalty: until Dec 25, the C. stands for Christmas
Morning dove update:
It’s officially winter now!* Three mourning doves and one chickadee sunning themselves on the balcony. Cat has no idea because she’s too busy napping on top of the radiator.

*fiiiine, i’ll get rid of my Halloween display name i guess

P. S:
This is the least Christmassy festive season I’ve ever experienced!
Stay safe! ❤️

The inimitable Sarah Millican @sarahmillican.bsky.social started #JoinIn long ago (on that other social media platform we don't mention anymore) and it has spread to Bluesky. After years of dedication, Sarah passed the baton to the rest of us to keep this mutual Xmas support going. Thank you, Sarah!

How is everyone this Christmas Eve? I've left the stressful shops behind and am happy to now be at home hanging out with the weird folk of the christmas tree. The garden birds are fed and happy, and I'll be eating too many pickles shortly. #JoinIn

It is about this: because so many people do not give a shit about romance, shit gets tried in romance first.

You should pay attention to romance publishing news and care about it, because they will try that shit here first.
