How can the EU reach its energy, climate, and circularity goals while also ensuring affordable, accessible, and healthy housing?

Our latest blog looks at how the EU can make use of empty and underused buildings in the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan.

Building a European Affordable Housing Plan with what we have
For a built environment that works for people and nature, the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan (EAHP) should take advantage of how environmental and social aspects can work together.

Over 40 concerned industry and civil society organisations have sent a letter to EU leaders, urging them to commit to chemical transparency and traceability.

Responsible companies need this commitment to continue operating competitively and sustainably in the EU.

✔️ Instead, we need companies to:

➡️ Make #reuse possible at scale
➡️ Focus on proper #waste disposal information
➡️ Use recycled content as product information, not #advertising

#Recycling claims can make plastic bottles seem harmless to the #environment but only 9% of ALL #plastic ever made globally has been recycled.

♻️ Green claims such as ‘100% recyclable’ are:

✖️ Misleading consumers
✖️ Delaying us from making true progress against plastic #pollution
clientearth.bsky.social
🚨 Court action🚨

We’ve filed a case against Nestlé Poland for misleading recycling claims on plastic water bottles.

Claims on bottles from one of its water brands including ‘I am recyclable’ and 'I am made from another bottle’ falsely portray plastic as circular & fully recyclable ⬇️

And online shopping is often where EU shoppers inadvertently receive noncompliant products because of legal loopholes that will hopefully soon be closed - but keep in mind when buying online that the products may not be following EU rules on safety and health 🙃
eurcorrespond.bsky.social
Online shopping is booming. In 2024 alone, three out of four (75%) European internet users bought or ordered goods and services online – up from 59% a decade ago. The digital marketplace isn't just growing; it's reshaping how Europeans live and shop.

The EU has an important role to play in making data centres more sustainable in Europe.

But it needs a more coherent strategy on data centres to make the most out of its existing policies and introduce more ambitious measures where needed.

There is a better way! 🤩

Data centres are essential infrastructure, but instead of allowing computational excess, we need laws that go further than efficiency, prioritising sufficiency, circularity, and transparency.
