I am heir to 2,400 year old living traditions of self-government and historical inquiry, which have weathered two millennia of setbacks and long nights.

They are heirs of a 10-minute old rebrand of a murderous 20th century ideology that failed almost immediately when tried.

So, yeah, contempt.
As much as people like to dunk on liberal elitism, “these Nazi punks are crass idiots and I refuse to bow to my lessers” is, for me at least, necessary for morale and stiffens my backbone when I feel like giving up.

When a person is abducted, there's a number to call to report & identify. A habeas petition challenging the abduction is electronically filed in that district, by a lawyer admitted in that district, within 30 minutes of the call. Anywhere in the country, 24 hours a day.

Nothing else is good enough.
hello! i am very curious if anybody is building a rapid response network to file habeas shell petitions for nice people before ice can take them out of state?

Not a fan of the way this lead is phrased, but the rest of it is great reporting.
In THEORY the point of jail is to make sure people show up to court - but since 2018 LASD has often failed to get them there

It's told by Thomas More at the end of his History of Richard III (c.1525): a fable that the lion announces execution of all horned beasts, and another with a lump on its forehead flees the forest: "Why fleest thou? That's no horn on thy head" "Aye, but what if he call it a horn, where am I then?"

One of the most important things I have learned from the study of history: Our circumstances are contingent, the result of countless overlapping developments. And that means that nothing is inevitable. What comes next will be the product of the choices we make.

It’s infuriating and tragic that in this holy season when the Church reflects on God’s salvation of an oppressed people, those who most loudly claim the mantle of Christ cheer the oppression of the alien, the widow, and the orphan. Lord, have mercy.

America feels like a shittier version of Discworld right now: a lot of plot lines mostly connected by setting and tone, but it’s hard to know where to start to get a comprehensive understanding of it all.

Spoke with an attorney who was harassed by law enforcement after providing pro bono help to immigrants. Wouldn't ID themselves or the agency.

My guess is he isn't the only one. If you've experienced similar harassment or know someone who has, please feel free to reach out.

Whether Judge Boasberg was correct on the law is largely irrelevant to whether the government is in contempt for willfully disobeying it. If the Trump administration knew there was an order from a federal judge and then willfully violated it, that is the end of the analysis.
