California policy vibes right now. 'Tis the end of the legislative session! And can't forget a lot is happening at local and regional governments, too! #CALeg #CAPolicy

Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies, and the opening scene always hits home - quite literally. Vast tracts of oil refineries dot the harbor communities of LA and western Long Beach. I can't help but think my home inspired this scene (minus the flying cars, of course). #environmentaljustice

So damned proud to be represented by Senator Alex Padilla!

(Full disclosure: I worked for Alex Padilla as a California Senate Fellow in 2011-2012.)
Senator Padilla is forcibly shoved out of Kristi Noem's press briefing:

"I'm Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the Secretary"

Not going to lie - this is a particularly tough moment. And that's exactly the point - to wear us down so much that we give up and acquiesce to whatever comes.

But too much is on the line - we can't give up. We can't acquiesce. We need to stand up!
Donald Trump is using us – both as Latinos and as Californians, to further his cruel and divisive agenda.

The aggressive raids and deployment of National Guard and US Troops are designed to intimidate our community and provoke conflict for the cameras.

Let us be clear: we are not intimidated.

#LosAngeles has the smoggiest air in the nation and is at the forefront of the climate crisis - drought, extreme heat & wildfires.

We need local leaders to prioritize #climate & #cleanair, not cut them.

And while we're at it, @mayor.lacity.gov, let's get serious about reducing port pollution!
Four months after the most devastating wildfires in L.A. history, Mayor Karen Bass wants to shut down the city's climate emergency office to save $700,000.

It's not hard to figure out that climate action isn't a high priority for Bass. My latest column: www.latimes.com/environment/...
Commentary: Climate change is cooking Los Angeles. Does Karen Bass care?
The L.A. mayor wants to eliminate a city office that protects people from deadly extreme heat.

Truly a disgusting state of affairs we're in...and now Trump is flouting a 9-0 Supreme Court order seeking this wrongfully deported person's return.

A little glimmer of positive news for #cleanair: the Senate Parliamentarian has ruled that Congress cannot overrule waivers for states that enact tougher emissions standards.

Glad to see someone like Senator Cory Booker taking the record from someone as odious as Strom Thurmond.
Cory Booker just passed the 24 hour mark. He's been speaking for a full day straight. 20 more minutes to break Strom Thurmond's record.

To me, abducting someone using plain clothes officers and cancelling their visa for creating "a ruckus" (co-signing an pro-Palestinian op-ed in a student newspaper) makes the whole Signal group chat leak seem a bit trite.
Marco Rubio on Rumeysa Ozturk: "We revoked her visa ... once you've lost your visa, you're no longer legally in the United States ... if you come into the US as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don't want it. We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country."

Thank you, 69th Assembly District! Not only did I win re-election as an Democratic Party Assembly Delegate, I was the top vote-getter among the AD 69 candidates.

We've got a lot of work ahead, both in terms of standing up to Trump and Musk and strengthening the Democratic Party.

Let's get to it!

#Medicaid expansion (via Medi-Cal) saved my mom's life just over a decade ago. It continues to provide her with exceptional care and support today.
As one of the 70+ million Americans who have been relying on Medicaid, shame on all those who voted to pass this 😡
Speaker Johnson following budget resolution vote: "We got it done...This is the first important step...we have a lot of hard work ahead of us...Lot of work yet to be done, but we're going to celebrate tonight. We'll roll up our sleeves and get right back at it in the morning."

Most people watching the #Andor trailer: "Wow, this new season looks lit!"

Those of us who were deep in the anti-Iraq War/anti-George W. Bush movements back in 2004: "HELL YEAH, STEVE EARLE!"

(Thanks @thespaceshipper.com for highlighting this).

Thanks @foxla.bsky.social for having me on last night to discuss the #airpollution from the #LosAngelesFires.

The important thing is ash and debris need to be treated as hazardous materials. Protect yourself, especially if you're in the burn area or southwest of the Eaton Fire. (1/2)
Incredible job by @elchaveezy.bsky.social, CCA Deputy Policy Director, for appearing on Fox11 Los Angeles to give watchers information covered on the LA Fires Webinar. Thank you for the excellent representation and for echoing useful insight on wildfire protection!
