basically every societal structure you think of as some universal innate, was in fact invented to uphold and entrench the Modern ruling class throughout industrialisation, slavery, etc, since like 1750.

Hard borders and passports and papers are *at most* a couple of hundred years old. Immigration legislation is even younger. The end of slavery and indentured labour was supposed to be the end of restrictions on freedom of movement but capitalists were always lying when they said labourers were free.
