Another tragedy took place in sea area off Crete, an inflatable boat carrying #Refugees sunk, 18 people dead with only 2 survivors.

This area is patroled & under surveillance by 🇬🇷 & 🇪🇺 so why is rescue always to late?

I have now received a reply to this communication. I thank the gov for their engagement, but am concerned that, in their response, they continue to conflate the work of human rights organisations with people smuggling. The State has a responsibility to reverse this false narrative, not perpetuate it

One can really sense the excitement that the Frontex press team must have felt when realising that they could now use a refugee story to promote its work of pushing back refugees.
Meet Laurindo, who had to flee civil war in Angola and move to Portugal with his siblings when he was 12 years old. He overcame the many challenges life threw at him, and became a Frontex officer 🇪🇺

The death of children at EU #borders, is so routine & normalized that it simply needs to be recorded in a SIR report, so that there is a record. Collecting data as a signal that it is enforcing EU #fundamentalrights, while there is never any accountability & border violence & deaths 📈
