Disabled person speaks out about abuse in a healthcare setting

“They wouldn’t do that”
“They can’t do that”
“Just lodge a complaint!”
“Just find another doctor”

The imbalance of power is huge when you’re disabled. It’s not as simple as “just” complaining or finding another doctor

Believe patients

I can feel the stress in the air. If you're struggling today, please reach for community. Turn off your phone and read a trans book. Call your reps. Talk to family, friends, anyone and everyone who can lift their voice for us. We'll still be here tomorrow.

When I talk about transphobia operating on the logics of abuse scaled up to the communal or societal level, this is what I mean.

"Look how much it sucks to be trans, because I made it that way. You should just desist, because if you insist on it, I'm going to have to hurt you so much more."
I'm not kidding. That's the fucking argument. "Kids will be harmed by the policy we rammed through once they grow up, so do conversion therapy on them."

The entire idea that trans people transition due to gender stereotypes is a cissexist imagination trying to rationalize our existence the only way it knows how.

The truth that we transition because we want to. We KNOW you don't have to transition we wear dresses, but we want to transition.
Me: I think if there had been information about trans people in schools when I was a kid it would've made my life a lot easier

The information about trans people in schools, apparently: If you like video games and having short hair that might mean you're a boy

Me: Ok not like that. Try again

Nous prenons connaissance de la décision de la Cour Suprême britannique de la décision de restreindre les protections légales à une définition du sexe excluant les personnes trans. Cette décision est absurde, rétrograde et dogmatique pour les raisons suivantes :

Today, the UK Supreme Court ruled that gender equality laws do not include trans women.

Here is why this ruling is nonsensical.

« Plus le pays écrase les droits des personnes concernées, plus les hommes gay ou les femmes trans font leur coming out tardivement par rapport aux femmes lesbiennes et aux hommes trans, alors qu’ils se perçoivent comme LGBT vers le même âge », résume Claire Vandendriessche, une des autrices.

Une nouvelle étude française, publiée dans une revue de médecine, vient de montrer que le principal facteur du nombre de coming out des jeunes personnes trans est le niveau de la transphobie dans la société.

After hundreds of hours of writing and research, I am done with my long form exposé on the early roots of American anti-trans law.

Looking both local and national, I picked apart America's first five anti-trans laws.

These obscure laws helped shape policing, slavery, book bans, AND transphobia 😐
