The only thing I'm nostalgic for about the 90s is that there were no software updates. Altering the code running on a user's device, remotely and without their knowledge or consent, is a responsibility of which software makers have again and again proved themselves manifestly and grossly unworthy.

Nobody only dies once. Most of us die many times over the course of our lives. The first time it happens it's devastating, but by the third or fourth time you begin to understand it's normal and expected.

You should support trans authors for many reasons, but one is that trans authors are doing things with their stories that aren't being done in cis mainstream books, including taking old tropes & examining them in new, unique ways. So if you're bored with what the big 5 are constantly pushing...

an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you'd agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing "dna" with "bits" doesn't make it ok

I tend to think not even their most zealous supporters particularly believe this stuff; they just really want to do all the things the lies give them perceived license to do. They want the USA to be a white ethnostate and they'll gladly LARP any fiction that covers for the advancement of that goal.

We're being ruled by men and women who speak purely in lies. Like literally every last word is a lie, and not a convincing one. It's good to keep fighting that with the truth, just don't burn yourself out trying to figure out how the fuckers could possibly believe what they're saying. They don't.

Important to understand that many lies are not meant to be convincing. When a schoolyard bully steals your lunch money, he says "that's mine." The absurdity is the point. It's an assertion of dominance. It is to say "reality is whatever I say it is. You disagree? What are you gonna do about it?"
