Urban run off is a poisonous mix of tyre rubber, brake dust, petrol, motor oil, heavy metals, chemicals from rubbish, as well as fertilisers and pesticides and other pollutants.
It's a disaster for our water courses after heavy rainfall.
We are a toxic species for Nature.
When @seriverstrust.bsky.social found efforts to restore trout to the River Wandle kept failing they identified road runoff pollution as a possible issue & installed 1 filter at a critical point - after that, after 90 years away, trout began returning.

Since I became an MP I’ve been pushing for river-friendly farming to protect our waterways.

Farmers want to be part of the solution, but govt must support them: invest in nature-friendly farming, properly fund the Envt Agency, and create more Water Protection Zones to truly tackle pollution.

Participation in our Food for Life programme helped Scotland lead the way: Scotland and Wales are procuring much more local food than other parts of the UK

We know it's possible: we need to replicate this nationally

David Lammy stated yesterday that a judicial review upheld the govt's decision not to enact a full arms embargo on Israel. But that's not the full story.

The judicial review actually said that issuing an arms embargo is for the govt to decide, not the courts.

Yet another govt report has spelled out the clear reality of social care: the system is broken, and every further day of inaction risks destabilising the sector entirely.

The govt can't wait for Baroness Casey's commission to conclude in 2028. We need #FreeSocialCareForAll now.

Top of my list of missing native species we should be looking at reintroducing to Ireland?

Lynx!!

• Never attack people
• Rarely attack livestock
• Aren't pack animals
• Help regulate deer
• Help regulate smaller predators, like fox
• Are a huge tourist draw
• Are just GORGEOUS!!
Happy #InternationalLynxDay 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the Eurasian lynx. This shy and elusive wild cat went extinct in Britain 1300 years ago, but now there’s hope for their return.
