I love when I'm doing a cryptic crossword with a clue like "I expose the flesh of King Edward" and you're wracking your brain for history or wordplay and it turns out that King Edward is a potato

When decimalisation occurred in 1966, the Australian government compiled an 81 page file on dangers of using decimal coins in Christmas puddings. There was a media campaign warning people not to use the new coins in their cooking. The file is now digitised.

You know I'm not having the greatest 2:30 am when I put on one of those sleep podcasts but keep trying to argue with it / copy edit it

I am begging every terrible generic burgers-steaks-and-chicken-tenders restaurant near two malls and a business park to have, like, ONE decent vegetarian meal.
(And I have no moral compunctions about eating meat in this kind of situation, I'm just worried about how my stomach would react.)

There is a small child here whose device keeps playing "AAAAAAAUGH," followed by a sort of squishy death sound, and I am currently praying that kid isn't getting on my flight.

Tried very hard to balance my 'get to the airport very early' impulse with my '2 hours is probably enough even on Christmas Eve' impulse but I got through security a full 2.75 hrs before my flight

If you really need to waste some water for your ideas, you can also do “staring at the wall” in the shower.
Instead of using GenAI to generate ideas, may I instead suggest "Staring at a Wall." Your mind will wander and probably have more relevant, fleshed out ideas than anything an LLM can generate. Join the "Staring at a Wall" movement today.

Last work day of the year and I don't have that much that I need to do, but it's going to take the very last shreds of my mental capacity to get it done.

I have always said it, I will continue to say it, we are limiting the productive potential of millions of freaks by demanding they earn a wage to survive instead of enabling them to do whatever thing their brain is broken for

I literally have never been "savaged" for posting a bad photograph. Or a picture of my dinner.

I can't remember the last time I've seen someone "savaged" over bad art, except in the area of niche fandom disagreements
I mean, things are tough all over. If rude criticism stops you from making art, you should probably not be making art.

Life gets more expensive when infrastructure gets worse.

It's harder than it used to be to find a gas station where you can inflate your tires. I'm sitting behind four other cars in line for the air pump at Kwik Trip, on my third try at finding a functional air pump.

One thing I really appreciated about Wake Up Dead Man is how it portrays being in a job where you got into it to help people, but you are actively prevented from doing anything helpful/useful, and your coworkers are actively at odds with your ideals. Relatable.

I guess it's because Christmas is quickly approaching, but I keep getting emails about things that other people with similar email addresses to mine have ordered.

- Guns
- Nail salon
- Cruise
- One of those hideous customizable children's picture books

There are multiple ways to learn how to read, and I'm of the opinion that we need many different approaches, including but not limited to phonics and phonemic awareness.

If I had world enough and time (and were better at vegan baking substitutions), I would be making something from Mooncakes and Milk Bread or Breaking Bao for book club Saturday (Last Night at the Telegraph Club). But I definitely won't, given the windchills they're predicting.

In an effort to not be cold during the winter, I bought some aluminum weatherstripping! And here I came to my first hurdle: I discovered that you need a hacksaw to cut aluminum weatherstripping.

It's wild how much better I feel both physically and mentally when it's normal amounts of cold (32 degrees) as opposed to abnormal amounts of cold.
Anyway, Nighthawk Solstice was yesterday! Sunsets start to get later, even though the actual solstice has not yet arrived!

If more people had ever made their own clothing, fewer people would get scammed thinking the web site charging $60 for a heavy coat with intricate embroidery is legitimate.
