Hello! We are a scrappy three-year-old civics blog based in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC.

We just updated
thegriffinlist.com, which contains detailed instructions for 65,000 NC voters whose votes might be thrown out in the state Supreme Court race. Please share!
The Griffin List

Hundreds of international students have just received an email telling them their visas have been revoked.

The ‘justification’ is campus activism or social media posts.

It appears the Trump Admin is shutting down the Dept of Education's International and Foreign Language Education unit, which funds and administers University and graduate foreign language study throughout the country and overseas. If true, an act of national sabotage. www.ed.gov/about/ed-off...

Had a similar experience last year when someone hit and ran my parked car. The garage had the footage including the tags of the car but needed the police to request it. It took multiple calls, a visit to the police precinct and almost a month for them to simply request the footage.
a very funny eye opening experience many people have had about how the cops actually operate is this "hey i have a tracking beacon on this stolen item that shows exactly where it is can you arrest the guy who stole it?" and the cops go like "lol no that sounds like a lot of work"
I spoke w/ a woman whose home was burgled after she evacuated. There's an Apple AirTag in one of the stolen bags, but police told her that due to the fires, they don't have resources to track it down. It's a whole new challenge for police (w/ @liborjany): www.latimes.com/california/s...

Went through some old family papers over the holiday and found this map & accompanying letter my grandfather sent in 1945.

He was stationed in France w the army but got time off to visit Paris. He traced his route and mailed the map home to his parents— I would love to retrace his steps one day!
