Not as dangerous, but we’ve been looking at ways schools are adapting their facilities for climate change. One district put in a greenhouse with a Koi pond.

"What’s more, research shows that these tactics harm students and families from marginalized communities — students of color and especially LGBTQ+ youth — by taking away access to affirming books and curriculum, and create a chilling effect for librarians and educators."

"These actions — book bans, censorship, and threats to the safety of educators — are often aimed at subgroups of students that have been underserved. And they cost school districts money."

@janellescott.bsky.social's excellent AERA presidential address (youtu.be/p7fJE_oy0oE) described a Muir Woods display inviting park goers to reflect on what knowing a more complete history of the place compelled them to do.

Now it's been ordered to be removed.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court allows the Trump administration to move forward with the abolition of the Department of Education. It gives no explanation for its order. All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

From Sotomayor's dissent:
Lifting the District Court’s injunction will unleash
untold harm, delaying or denying educational opportunities
and leaving students to suffer from discrimination, sexual
assault, and other civil rights violations without the federal
resources Congress intended. The majority apparently
deems it more important to free the Government from paying employees it had no right to fire than to avert these very
real harms while the litigation continues. Equity does not
support such an inequitable result.
* * *
The President must take care that the laws are faithfully
executed, not set out to dismantle them. That basic rule
undergirds our Constitution’s separation of powers. Yet today, the majority rewards clear defiance of that core principle with emergency relief. Because I cannot condone such
abuse of our equitable authority, I respectfully dissent.

One of my colleagues and a union comrade was abducted at the Camarillo action yesterday.

We still don't know where he is, who is holding them, or any other information about his status.

If you're in the area, please reach out to the folks listed in the press release and donate to the bail fund.

"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants.

Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."
