Discussing this phenomenon w/ a group of profs. Someone morbidly joked, “& northern profs are fleeing the country.” The next person said…”even if we were all willing & able to abandon this place there are not enough jobs for us globally and the U.S. employs a huge # of international scholars too.”
‘Fear and hopelessness’: study finds one in four professors consider leaving US south

Fuck Gavin Newsom. I will never vote for him and you shouldn't either.
Excerpt from an article discussing LGBT+ protections in California legislation. It states that Governor Newsom neither signed nor vetoed certain bills. One bill strengthened protections under Sen. Scott Wiener’s “State of Refuge” law. The highlighted portion reads: “At least four bills directly addressed trans protections,” followed by examples such as healthcare and patient confidentiality, streamlining legal name and gender changes, nondiscrimination in health insurance, and inclusive homelessness programs.

Our ancestors were called uncivilized because their connection to nature challenged the capitalist obsession with controlling land.

Police said that "family" was worried about her. But the only family member mentioned in the court records is her partner, who was arrested for abusing her and threatening her at gunpoint the day she took the pills, after which she left. He is the one who called the cops

This story is completely insane. After our first article, Flock and the police have aggressively asserted that the woman "was never under criminal investigation by Johnson County." Flock has used it as an example of "clickbait journalism" and its CEO has attacked the reporting multiple times

One of the things I took away from the 60s and Richard Nixon, first mentioned by Hunter Thompson, but I believe to be true, is the fact that we believed, at time, that all our protesting, marching and sign waving was futile and pointless when in fact, it drove Richard Nixon to alcohol fueled madness

Everyone is trying to have a normal Saturday night and the president's top advisor is on X announcing that civil war is necessary
@StephenM on X: Legal insurrection. The President is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, not an Oregon judge. Portland and Oregon law enforcement, at the direction of local leaders, have refused to aid ICE officers facing relentless terrorist assault and threats to life. (There are more local law enforcement officers in Oregon than there are guns and badges in the FBI nationwide). This is an organized terrorist attack on the federal government and its officers, and the deployment of troops is an absolute necessity to defend our personnel, our laws, our government, public order and the Republic itself.

Also, any Louisiana Creole:

Do you know what’s up with new babies and snapping turtles? Like is the turtle soup supposed to bring good luck? Mo pa konne!!

Y’all don’t tell me we’re not Circum-Caribbean! I just found out we used to sub oxtail for turtle in turtle soup/turtle sauce piquante when we didn’t have turtles on hand (we use alligator snapping turtles and seasonally, they’re less available/sometimes endangered).

ICE is now targeting Black Americans.

It was never about immigration. It was always about racism and control.

When I sleep alone, I love to burrito myself in a fluffy duvet so intently from head to toe that if someone wanted to locate me, they would need to excavate me from bed.
