*mumbles* it's the narrative seeking reader permission to proceed with an imbalanced power dynamic by acknowledging it once and then never again, instead of actually interrogating the power dynamic and drawing dramatic tension from the imbalance, in this essay I will--
when I tell you I read a book where they're about to bone but then the man says "we can't! the power dynamic!"

I've said this a couple times in interviews lately but it's annoying that the lesson publishing will take away from this isn't "invest in more specific, niche, and/or weird books that cater to an under-served readership." It'll be "MORE SPORTS" bc that's a variable they can quantify.

I'd like to write something someday that has a life of its own. that finds people without me and can live after me and still reach people and make them feel things. so I guess to participate the tradition of literature in a meaningful way
what is the biggest writerly goal you are willing to cop to publicly? I would like to be nominated for a Lammy

This is depressing.

Professional bodies that take this position legitimise the use of LLMs — not forbidding the behaviour is as good as condoning it.
Another Nebula Awards nomination cycle is in full swing, and the addition of poetry and comics, along with the presence of LLMs in industry, required careful consideration.

Read on, and vote well!

We trust our voters & look forward to what they choose to celebrate.
