This is not what democracy looks like. Anyone who cares at all about the Constitution has to take a stand against this and against MAGA.

Covid destroyed a lot of businesses. A Soho bakery called Once Upon a Tart was one of them. Sad they're gone, grateful I have their cookbook for their excellent buttermilk currant scones. Here's a close copy of their recipe: www.runningfoodie.com/2009/10/once...

We have co-signed an open letter to the Prime Minister, calling for the Protected Landscapes Duty to be upheld following rumours the government is planning to amend or remove it through the Planning & Infrastructure Bill. Read more here: www.cnp.org.uk/about/our-wo...

Bit worrying , now that Starmer has finally recognised Palestine , he’s unable to recognise his own citizens.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

A small note here - I got an email last week pointing out that I have recently published pieces with typos in.

Apologies for that - I do my best to catch them as I go, but sometimes even on the second and third line edit, an errant one might slip through, so please Bear with me.

So a book I need to see — Albert Schouteet, De klerken van de Vierschaar te Brugge met inventaris van hun protocollen (Brugge, 1973) — seems only to exist in a couple of libraries in Belgium and the Netherlands. If it's near you and you could take some pictures, I'll happily pay for your time!
