With by book out for a week now I thought it would be fun to share my original idea for a cover before letting an actual designer make it better.

I'd like to mention that AI is not included in any of my work, written or visually. I wrote the book and my partner is an excellent editor/graphic designer.

Please be careful with your art!
Artists who take commish: there's a scam going around where people ask for a sketch, then ghost you and autocomplete your sketch with gen AI.

It's been happening for a while, but this is the first video I watched that detailed how it's being done.

Terrific author’s note from C K McDonnell. Automating a process is stupid if the process is the point.

Also, if a book lasts into further reprints, is read maybe, hopefully, into the future, these notes will be valuable, lived history.

I wonder if it will stop here. I would definitely appreciate a public statement from the next Worldcon about this, if only to reassure us that future Hugo voters will be permitted to vote for things nominated.

Just got my official ISBN account set up. I'm so close to being able to publish my book. Both excited and nervous.

Fellow authors, what was it like for you when you were about to publish your first book?

Why is it that it's more enjoyable to play an idle phone game about retail than it is to work actual retail?

Answer: less sass from customers

Here's to another year of being asked some of the most obvious questions by customers. Example below:

Another boxing day behind us! I'm tired, I'm sore, but I made it through without too many negative customers.

It's the closest thing to a win I've got.

It's the shortest day of the year today, which only means that it can only get better from here. The days will finally start to get longer instead of shorter, although it'll be a while before it's finally noticeable.

We have 4 days until Christmas and I just want to say this to all #retail workers out there:

You are all champions, and no matter what you may have gone through this holiday season, you made it through! You deserve all the rest in the new year!

I don't know if anyone else gets anxious about phone calls but a little tip I've learned is: if there is a phone call that I don't want to make, before I start dialing the number, I carefully hold the phone in my hand & toss it gently into a lake. I hope this advice helps others.

When you work retail full-time, the start of your work week is rarely Monday. This week, Monday feels like Thursday to me.

Attention retail workers:

What are some of your wacky customer interactions this holiday season? (Hopefully we can keep it clean and civil)
