The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

"Today the consequences of excessive roadbuilding are perfectly foreseeable; it’s the wisdom that remains scarce."

For @bostonglobe.com's Wild Issue, I wrote about Trump's plan to rescind USFS's Roadless Rule, which — spoiler — is a terrible idea. #roadecology

Side note: if you have newsy stories about how biodiversity is being affected by the Trump administration's policies--ideally stories rooted in ongoing scientific research--let me know.

Do you work in conservation science, particularly outside the U.S.? Did you lose your job or funding for your job because of cuts to U.S. federal agencies? Do you want to talk about it? DM me please. (This is for a @biographic.bsky.social story)

A new study finds over 70% of Illinois wetlands lost protection after the Supreme Court’s rollback of the Clean Water Act.

Floodplain forests—vital for flood control, water quality, and climate resilience—are most at risk.

Illinois needs to pass a state law protecting wetlands.

The Roadless Rule is one of the most critical policies that helps defend our forests. The Trump administration is proposing to rescind it, but we have until Friday, September 19 to speak up. Submit your comment today.

Has he ever debated or engaged with an environmentalist he disagrees with?

I've seen nothing in any of his articles, podcasts, or book.

1. C'mon man!
2. I challenged Ezra and Derek to debates the day their book was published--my organization had obtained a review copy and we had been writing about Abundance for 18 months.

While I was attacked by them, CRICKETS about a debate!

Like, Ezra has no commitment to debate whatsoever!

North America's largest cormorant colony is an example of wild resilience in the heart of one of the world's most diverse cities. My latest for @biographic.bsky.social explores a longstanding effort to give this long-reviled species a safe space to thrive www.biographic.com/a-wild-home-...

If spring migration in Portland felt quiet this year, you weren’t imagining it. New data from BirdCast shows a steep drop in migrant songbird numbers across Oregon & much of the West, raising big questions about what’s happening on the wintering grounds. birdallianceoregon.org/blog/oregons...
Oregon's Silent Spring
This year, birders were universal in noticing something unsettling: a stark lack of migrants. While a few individuals may have arrived on time, or close to it, the overall numbers were just a fraction...
