Can't believe they took down this webpage on dietary, physical activity, and sleep behaviors of youth because of, choke, "gender ideology." The ignorance is horrifying.

One of the "homework" prompts our pediatrician recently gave our 8-year-old was to know one parent's phone number, which I found so brilliant. Schools should be doing that, too.
If you don't know the phone number of your partner, best friend, or lawyer by heart, it seems like a good time to learn it.

Finding it pretty incredible that the Trump admin took down refs to Tuskegee Airmen and Navajo Code Talkers as if they benefited from DEI, something that didn't exist until very recently.

IMO we should have intelligent speed assist on *every* car, but the least we can do is put it on the vehicles of every recidivist speeder/reckless driver. Moved by this call to action from Lori Markowitz of @fam4safestreets.bsky.social days after what should have been her son's birthday.
Op-Ed: Anti-Speeding Technology Could Have Saved My Son — Streetsblog USA
A new Washington state bill could help end speeding. And similar bills are spreading across the country.

Watched Hercules w/ the kids on Sunday, and, oof, the late '90s were not a golden era for Disney. Don't know what they were going for.

Low key obsessed with the Tesla Takedown protests right now, but also wondering: what if more people understood the connections between *every* automaker (/automobility on the whole) and the rise of fascism and mass violence in our society? And what if we stood up to them?
What if the 'Tesla Takedown' Is Only the Beginning? — Streetsblog USA
Tesla's cars have become symbols of Elon Musk's controversial role in U.S. politics — but they're also instruments of a violent system that long predates his time in the White House.

The FBI is moving to criminalize community climate workgroups like Habitat for Humanity for receiving grants from the EPA under the Biden administration, claiming they engaged in a conspiracy to defraud the United States by writing successful funding proposals.

So many studies blame the decline in kids' physical activity to screen time, but guess what, I didn't have an iPad in the '90s but I did have a television, and I watched it A LOT. Like, hours/day.

The prob has a lot more to do w/ how the built env has been engineered for cars, not ppl, esp kids.

If we really want to have resilient communities that can organize and provide for themselves, then we need to stop making it difficult for local third places to exist. Dems should go after the impact and change-of-use fees that make it nearly impossible for small, local biz to open and thrive.

According to an Urban #analysis, immigrants made up more than 23% of the construction workforce in 2023.

Learn more about the role of #immigrant workers in housing markets and how deportation-induced labor shortages in construction could worsen the #housing shortage in a new Urban Wire post.
Mass Deportations Would Worsen Our Housing Crisis
Mass deportations would reduce the construction labor force, which is highly dependent on immigrant workers, exacerbating the US housing crisis—but some states are more at risk than others.

My mom's 60-something friend was using a sleep apnea machine and then started playing pickleball nearly every day. He no longer has to use his sleep apnea machine.

Exercise is a freakin' medicine, and we should make it as easy as possible for everyone to do.
