I like firm beds and at some point in my twenties seriously considered replacing mine with a wrestling mat and a bamboo flat sheet. I see now that I was a conformist.

This guy (Tate) is a vicious abuser and slaver of women and girls, and has cultivated this lifestyle not out of need but to seek the approval of other stunted misogynists, often teenage boys. I think the story here is that evil breaks your mind. www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ma...

just as drunkenness explains but does not excuse dangerous driving, those who operate and profit from LLMs ought to answer for their own entirely avoidable jettisoning of responsibility. one neither writes nor steers, but subjects others to the words and the crash.

apparently a lot of people were unimpressed by the new taylor swift record. I of course have no opinions about that or in fact about anything, but I did think it was pretty impressive that they managed to make the whole thing with ai in only 20 minutes. imagine what they could have done with an hour

I'm sorry but any report that uncritically says assets would be seized "to pay for" costs is just parroting government propaganda. Confiscations are dreamed up as a punitive deterrent, not a sincere attempt at a funding mechanism.

I think that journalists ought to demand to write their own headlines, or to take responsibility for them, which might mean pushing back on editorial boards or refusing to work with some. The situation now is bizarre. No one answers for what millions of people see

I think that one of the worst things you can do in this moment is sell flattering illusions and lend pseudo-sophistication to the powerful, particularly to the tech types, who seem to be searching for a story in their own idiom: so rationalism, emergentism, bayes, obsession with new technologies

As a child, scriptural condemnations of false teachers, idols, demons, illusory paths to eternal life, had always struck me as the most provincial and historically contingent part of religion, of little value to people as modern and wise and free as I thought we were. Can see now that I was wrong.
