What do you mean I don't have to consume an endless amount of insane right wing ads all day?

Did y'all notice how it's the billionaires who want to shut down the government? 🍴

Mexico has been doing the US's very dirty work of keeping people away from the border, and yet they are threatened with tariffs. Beyond tariffs in retaliation, I just hope they stopped doing the dirty work.

Yeah, I don't think billionaires should be a thing.

You can't understand this election without grappling with the penetration of right-wing propaganda into every corner of American intellectual life.

The idea that Democrats use this phrase or levy the term against innocent, ordinary male behavior is a Fox News myth.

Today, during this difficult week, I am following the Buddhist tradition of “chop wood (do laundry), carry water (do more laundry).” Later I will do even more laundry. Then, probably, enlightenment? (Then more laundry.)

I appreciate much of the analysis I’ve seen over the last couple days. I don’t think we can talk about what is sick in politics or media (a lot!) w/o looking directly at billionaires, refusing to shut up about billionaires, and coming for billionaires through policies that chisel away at their power
American billionaires have long placed their thumbs on the scale of democracy—but never like this.
Welcome to the oligarch election.

I thought nothing else could hurt this week but here we are.
New! A federal court in Texas just ruled against Biden's Keeping Families Together parole program for undocumented spouses of US citizens. He finds standing for Texas because beneficiaries will likely eventually become eligible for state benefits, and rules that all parole in place is unlawful.

"Soft-sided" detention facilities (think fancy tents with jail cells in them) are cash cows for private prison corps. DHS's 2023 spend plan says a single 500-bed facility in San Diego cost $118 million to build. Keeping a 1,000 bed facility in Eagle Pass open costs taxpayers $143.6 million a year.

It takes a special kind of psychosis to believe everything a politician says, justify their every action, and defend them relentlessly 🤷

"Mira que el miedo nos hizo
Cometer estupideces
Nos dejó sordos y ciegos
Tantas veces
Y un día después de la tormenta
Cuando menos piensas, sale el sol
De tanto sumar, pierdes la cuenta
Porque uno y uno no siempre son dos
Cuando menos piensas, sale el sol"

This 👇

It's indeed impossible to address concerns that are based on a fake reality.
I haven't seen a single "we have to understand the concerns of Trump voters" take reckons with the fact that a huge percentage of their concerns are based on false information. You cannot "address" a concern about a fake thing!
This is how I feel discussing inflation.
MAGA person: Biden doesn't care about bread and butter issues like inflation.
Me: He signed the Inflation Reduction Act and we have lowest inflation among OECD.
MAGA person: But what about inflation?!

If your standard for young men to not be alienated from the left is "no random person in the world can ever use a phrase they don't like", then there's no way to keep young men as part of the left. It's literally an absurdly impossible requirement.

so far the only explanation i've seen that doesn't smack of "if only she'd listen to me she would have won" is "global discontent with incumbents because of inflation and post-pandemic malaise + toxic information environments"
