Resist the urge to return to normal at all costs. It is an illusion. And a dangerous one.

1. There is no living with MAGA.

2. We are now in the Anthropocene. The world we knew is gone. Climate change is here, now.

It’s time for America to grow the fuck up.

When you consider that the high-level language-based thinking is mostly in the outer fraction of an inch of brain matter, it’s not so surprising.

There is a LOT happening under the surface of the lake.

Portland City Councilor & Army vet Mitch Green:

"Know that if you choose to refuse [an unlawful order] you won't be alone. There's a group called About Face that offers [peer or legal] support for service members."

Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.

that's my argument more than anything that regardless of what is the Right or the Wrong thing to do from a moral standpoint, the bluesky team is clearly lacking someone with the vision to see that this [gestures wildly] is actively harmful to staff morale if nothing else, let alone brand reputation.

Pretty sure that tank was serviced very carefully to produce that squeak. (An unserviced tank sounds like a machine shop falling down stairs.)

That whole parade was a giant middle finger from the military to Trump. They do NOT appreciate the way he uses them.

That quote is not true evidence of belief in Roko’s basilisk.

We also need(ed) to master our cell phones before they mastered us.
Of course, we failed in that and are living with the consequences.

AI can absolutely do us harm without ever becoming “smarter” than it is now.

They aren't hypocrites. They literally do not care. There is nothing you can say to get them to realize any personal shame regarding contradicting views that change from minute to minute because they have none. They don't give it any thought whatsoever.

I want to congratulate leading Democrats’ for their insistence on saying the takeover of DC is a “stunt” or a “distraction.”

It’s a rare trifecta of intellectual failure, political stupidity, and moral obtuseness.

These low-info voters sound an awful lot like MAGA, whose starting assumption is that everyone is a grifter playing a zero-sum game.

I’m giving him credit for being able to manually verify 29 lines of python.

Unclear if using a verification tool that you can inspect but did not write is superior to using one you wrote, bc of the tendency to miss one’s own errors.

If he phoned in the software review he could still be hosed, ofc.

It’s rarely 100% one or the other in practice.

Resource tradeoffs are real. Financial tradeoffs are real to the extent that they reflect that, but are fake inasmuch as that is very often not tue case: the financial landscape is arbitrary, and exists to favor the industries that have captured it.

Exactly my point. The OP is sarcastic - this guy is using AI the right way, because he’s not using it to avoid thinking.
eubanksengineeringresearch.com
And AI is *so* much more complex than a firearm. (Also, much more potentially useful and also much more potentially dangerous, at least for some people.)
eubanksengineeringresearch.com
As someone else here observed, (current) AI technology is a great boon to the senior professional and a total disaster for the junior.
This pattern repeats relative to other aspects of life, as well.
eubanksengineeringresearch.com
If AI really is that dangerous (and tbh I think it just might be) then all the more reason for each of us to try to develop an independent understanding of it.

wanting to understand a technology is not philosophically, morally, or ethically equivalent to "boosting it". if i was making a thread about how we all need to give our money to sam altman then i would say being cruel to me is not only fine but possibly ethically ideal. i am not making that thread

Everywhere I go in Virginia, I hear from constituents who want prices to come down. Affordability is a bipartisan concern—so why can’t we all come to the table and hammer out a deal to prevent health care premiums from more than doubling? Let’s get it done.
