i have unironically considered using LLMs as a cheap account filter that looks at accounts on my phpbb forum and makes a judgment call on registration time "does this look like a spambot y/n" (spambots don't know how to use the phpbb custom user fields) and if so restricting their posting.

one idea that has occurred to me over the last few days is having claude label 'low quality/bad faith replies' and delegate the responsibility of engagement with that to claude, with the goal of being unflinchingly, maximally kind

I think it's worth mentioning that this sort of intellectual property landlordism is incompatible with the Internet. You can't want all:

a) Content you upload to the Internet being private
b) Content you upload to the Internet being accessible
c) Computers and the Internet like you understand them

This is just how computers work, data has to be transmitted to the user system to be reproduced for viewing. You either make that difficult, like in closed social media, or you want an open social media with open clients which make that easy.

Because AI models do not in fact reproduce their training contents, it’s trivial for companies to train on anything they want and just not disclose it, and you can’t really do anything about it

The only thing I’d add as they are both debating an impossible premise, the antis are basically arguing for uninventing the technology (impossible), while the pros are arguing for outsourcing everything to it (also impossible)

AI always calling your ideas “fantastic” can feel inauthentic, but what are sycophancy’s deeper harms? We find that in the common use case of seeking AI advice on interpersonal situations—specifically conflicts—sycophancy makes people feel more right & less willing to apologize.

I don't care about the robots but I guess these people think it's funny, but they're doing a satire of real racism by invoking very violent fake racism, but in a pointless way that has no joke and seems more like cathartic demonstrations of racism.

i never expected a mea culpa from him in the first place but it is amazing how he just pretends that his entire theory of ai function didn't basically got obliterated about 2-3 years ago (and was on the path 5-6 years ago).

If OpenAI lights $1 trillion on fire and achieves nothing of technical consequence whatsoever except for the destruction of existing US copyright and IP laws it would likely be the most effective pro-growth intervention in decades and more than easily justify spending that money.
