It's ok to double down on the lost arts of gratitude and hand-written notes mean a lot to people now, perhaps now more than ever it feels like a real bond vs. an automated response

20 years ago I prototyped a nonprofit giving app to send back a photo of impact created with a message. Went nowhere.

There’s a lot going on, so here is a map of the world’s forests, divided by categories of wood.

Weirdly enough, I think this works. No one is more insecure than a new ICE agent. They want to be the blonde guy in DHS’s AI Nazi posting so badly. Instead, they’ll be guarding indistinguishable suburban warehouse #16361 while inflated frogs and dinosaurs thrust in their face all day every day.

"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.

Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

I have access to Sora, and I am extremely thankful to the very lovely person who gave it to me and I’ll be honest - I don’t think any product I’ve ever used has more immediately skeeved me out as quickly or as deeply.

Perhaps I’ll get over it, but first impressions - deeply queasy feeling.

Haven't cancelled Paramount+ yet? What are you waiting for?

Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

I spoke to parents who are letting their young kids play with generative AI and tried to sort through some of the questions they have about it.

"I don’t know what this is doing to their brains," one dad told me.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman says, "Kids love ChatGPT on voicemode."
‘My son genuinely believed it was real’: Parents are letting little kids play with AI. Are they wrong?
Some believe AI can spark their child’s imagination through personalized stories and generative images. Scientists are wary of its affect on creativity

A new KFF study reports: 24 million Americans will see their health care premiums under the Affordable Care Act DOUBLE.

Further, 15 million people will be thrown off their health care entirely.

Unacceptable. We can’t subject millions of Americans to this unnecessary suffering.

Ads reveal that Flock, makers of automated license plate readers and other surveillance technology, are promising to introduce "Distress detection" into their gunshot detection devices which will alert police when it hears human voices in distress, including screaming.

My 20+ years of military service grandfather used to say the Commissary and PX were the only reasons to serve in the military; he shopped at these stores until he died as they had the best deals in the US.

Removing them removes a key reason to stay in the service.
Privatizing them is a sham grift

I can't emphasize enough that the BX/PX/Commissary are massive selling points for military service (Things are cheaper than civie stores AND no tax), and Trump seems determined to have the military he needs for his fascist nonsense also hate him with the intensity of a thousand suns lol.

I know these guys are all dumber than a sack of hammers, but it is fascinating to see the military decide “logistics are gay” in real time

Narrative dominance is about trying to shift the narrative until no one understands a thing, so fake authorities can pretend they KNOW what they're talking about with some sense of false "authority" in their voice to manipulate masses
