While three characters have about a hundred years of backstory in my head, only a few events are mentioned. They've been mythicized. The MC has 11 years she doesn't remember, and they are key to the plot. A quarter of all backstories are pivotal to the story, though others are mentioned.

Just putting this out there for anyone who doesn't know: Do not, under any circumstances, print out a load of short stories and leave them, unstapled and unattended in a pile if you have cats.

Sam loves to feel the wind. Riding her horse over barren landscapes and discovering the ruins of the old world. She hordes family photos that survived the end of the world. Seeing what life was like before demons took over the world.

Sam is afraid of a cage. Not like Eowyn, but she is afraid of losing her freedom. She faces this fear by allowing herself to be sucked into the Seraphim cult, to get what she needs, but is afraid that she will be trapped. Afraid she will choose to stay trapped.

Sam is proud of her ability to survive. She was able to survive for 15 years wandering the wild wasteland. Evading capture by raiders and bandits. Hunting to eat and trading with settlements. She always manages to catch herself before hitting the bottom.
