When you #pitch online for any #writing event, do research on every person & business that identifies as an agent or publisher.

It's even more critical now that AI churns out cons with little effort on the con artist's part. @victoriastrauss.com is a starting point re: learning red flags.

Just putting this out there for anyone who doesn't know: Do not, under any circumstances, print out a load of short stories and leave them, unstapled and unattended in a pile if you have cats.

I was feeling amazing about getting some of my work out to the public in the form of snippets. Then my oven broke and I'm poor. 😭 I have the means to replace the element, but it feels like a gut punch.

Sam is afraid of a cage. Not like Eowyn, but she is afraid of losing her freedom. She faces this fear by allowing herself to be sucked into the Seraphim cult, to get what she needs, but is afraid that she will be trapped. Afraid she will choose to stay trapped.

Sam is proud of her ability to survive. She was able to survive for 15 years wandering the wild wasteland. Evading capture by raiders and bandits. Hunting to eat and trading with settlements. She always manages to catch herself before hitting the bottom.

Written passage that reads: She could run in a straight line to the trees growing along a river north of them. But she couldn't tell if that distance was two miles or five. Long grass blurred shadows and hid gullies that appeared out of nowhere. Sam would break her fool neck trying. No, running now would dumb. The humiliation of being carried back like a sack of grain made her cheeks burn. She agreed to this insane escape plan; she needed to stay.
