Atlanta advocate for transit and safer streets. Walk, bike, bus, train, etc. Leafblowers are awful.

A great way to make people’s fears about traffic impacts of infill development come true — and bolster their opposition to the next project — is to plan and build for all the people moving into your city-like place to bring their cars and carcentric travel habits with them.

Car buyers will now be allowed write off up to $10,000/ year in interest paid on qualifying auto loans

Car drivers can still get over $3,500 in parking tax benefits too

But, bike commuters got their $240/year benefit cut

It's not about the budget, it's a preference & subsidy for people who drive
Ugh. The megabill permanently killed commuter benefits for people who bike to work.

Car bloat is a disease – and it’s spreading.

Here are a few of the stories I wrote in 2024 about dangerously huge vehicles. 🧵

This year GM killed the Chevy Malibu, the last sedan available to Americans from the Big Three. 4/5 new US cars are SUVs or pickups.

Detroit killed the sedan. We may all live to regret it
GM ending production of the Chevy Malibu underscores that the Big Three are done with sedans. But consumers may not flock to expensive SUVs in response.

Americans are ~2.5x more likely to die in a crash than a Canadian, ~3.5x more likely than a Spaniard, and ~5x more likely than a Japanese person.

Here are a few of the articles I wrote in 2024 trying to understand why the US is uniquely terrible at road safety.

My new paper, The effect of front-end vehicle height on pedestrian death risk, was just published at #Economics of #Transportation. I use vehicle design measurements to test for the effect of taller vehicles on pedestrian outcomes in crashes. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Greetings! After a year+ of hate-lurking at the other site, finally dipping my toe in here. I mostly stopped posting there, so I'm forcing myself to speak up here. Mostly walk/bike/transit with an occasional rant.

Thanks for the invite, @tombreen.bsky.social!
