We can’t solve a huge problem
by ignoring it. We need more politicians who care about tackling long covid.

Also good to remember: the flu itself is really bad and a deadly illness for many thousands of people every year. To say that a disease is "just like the flu" is to say that it is a very serious and costly illness.

We are blissfully ignorant of the horrors of polio as the vaccines are so effective for their intended purpose: preventing poliomyelitis. But if we stop vaccinating, polio will be back. So let’s not learn about polio by counting the dead or disabled bodies of children.

Recent estimates from @moriartylab.bsky.social run around 30,000 per year for Canada; UK has 150% of our population, so 45,000 or so excess deaths per year would be reasonable?

Official UK numbers are around 25,000 excess deaths in 2023...
