Although nothing can undo the damage or replace what we’ve lost, we continue the hard work of rebuilding and preventing disasters like this from happening again in the future.

This morning we learned the news that someone has been arrested for allegedly starting the devastating Palisades fire in January. As we anxiously wait for more information to come out, I’m sending love and care to everybody in our community.

Authorities on Wednesday also announced the arrest of 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht, who is suspected of setting the initial fire on New Year’s Eve.

LA’s Housing & Homelessness Committee is meeting TOMORROW to consider capping rent increases at 3% for every rent-stabilized tenant in the city.

This could determine the rent next year for you and and 1.1 million of your neighbors.

More than 800,000 Uber and Lyft drivers in California will be able to unionize under a bill that has now been signed into law.

The law also requires the corporate giants to bargain with these workers in good faith.

We just built a NEW tech tool that *any current or former tenant* in the entire country can use for free — it will generate a legal letter for you that reports to collections agencies, credit bureaus and regulatory agencies.

Go to reportmylandlord.org to fight back.

May the year ahead bring courage, compassion, and the strength to do the work our values demand. Shana tova.

Over the last ten days, the Jewish community has been observing the High Holy days — a time of deep reflection and spiritual introspection. As Yom Kippur begins, I’m holding our Jewish community in care—may your fasting, prayer, and reflection bring renewal and strength.

That’s why I support the demands from housing groups like Keep LA Housed and labor unions. I also support other motions being proposed to provide support for small landlords to ensure they can maintain their buildings while we keep rents affordable for renters.

Many people who live in RVs do so because they can’t afford the rent. People are barely scraping by, having to choose between rent and food. The status quo is just not livable for anyone. It’s past time to change our RSO to help keep rents affordable for Angelenos.

LA is a majority renter city, including 57% of CD11 residents. You don’t need to be a policy expert to know that the rent is out of control. As a housing attorney, I have heard story after story of renters getting priced out of the Westside — or worse, evicted because of unaffordable rents.

Join me at City Hall today (10/1) at 12:30 PM for a rally followed by public comment in the Housing & Homelessness Committee, which will finally take up long-overdue reforms to LA's Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO). Housing advocates have been asking for this since 2022!

WE WON: "This case -– perhaps the most important ever to fall w/in..this district court squarely presents the issue whether non-citizens lawfully present here in US..have the same free speech rights as the rest of us. The Court answers this Constitutional question unequivocally “yes, they do.”"

Since the Ezra & Ta-Nehisi discussion is still happening: the main point I think most are missing is that Klein is saying the role of the journalist-intellectual is to do strategic politics, whereas Coates says the role of the journalist-intellectual is to tell the truth

Mockler: I'm pretty tired of conservatives gaslighting about the current political environment and Donald Trump's rhetoric when all of this escalation can be traced back to his entrance into American politics.

There's a lot of room for improvement with LA's emergency alert systems (lord I hope someone is making them). But still make sure you're signed up and tell a friend and family member! Thank you @laist.com for this helpful roundup.

Fire season is here. Make sure you’re signed up for these alerts
You need to know when to evacuate, but a recurring problem during emergencies is that the authorities can't reach all the people they need to. So sign up today.

Are the voices of impacted Westchester residents like Wade being considered with the proposed LAX roadway expansion?
kaizendad.bsky.social
Thanks for standing up for this! Sepulveda is a major business thoroughfare, and us Westchester residents need to be able to cross it - eight lanes would be asking for car-on-pedestrian accidents!
faizahforla.bsky.social
Instead, we need solutions that actually move people and work for our neighborhoods: direct transit to LAX, reliable shuttles, and safer streets so workers and families get home in one piece.

Given the serious allegations and recent rulings, a UN Human Rights Council investigation is warranted to protect due process and human rights.
