Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit! ❤️📚

I try to mostly shop at indie bookshops, but I’m really happy to hear that B&N is doing well. When I worked in publishing, I learned how crucial B&N is for author exposure & book sales. B&N is a safe haven for people of all ages. As long as they don’t push out indies, this is good news.

Indie and self publishing info from Publishers Weekly.

Not news to those of us who have been at it for a while, but interesting reading anyway. There are many paths to being a published writer.

The argument is that this vanity press can “streamline” the publishing process and I, an indie author, am here to tell them we already do so AND we pay ✨actual✨ humans to edit, design, and format our books. So thanks, but… 🫥 nah.

I personally think indie publishing is harder than trad because you are doing everything yourself and you are paying for it out of your own pocket.

Good morning!

Indie publishing is just as valid as trad publishing. Do what feels best for you (and your books)

Libraries will not save you!

BUT

They can provide you with books and other materials and a safe space wherein you can learn how to save yourself and others!

ways to support indie and small press authors:
(beyond the obvious of buying their books directly)

- review their books on GoodReads, the StoryGraph, Romance io, the book retailers you get their books from, etc

- recommend their work to like-minded friends or family

I agree. The situation is more complex than some people make it. I like to support small businesses but as a small time author myself, I've also had an indie bookstore snub me so...🙃 it's not always easy.

I love indie bookstores, but saying online vendors like Amazon only financially support "some billionaire" is BS. Many authors depend on e-book royalties for their living. Ordering print from indies benefits the store, yes, but what's the author making vs. a corporation like HarperCollins or PRH?

@pairofclaws.bsky.social pointed out that if you want to support indie authors, buying books is not enough. You have to read & review them, too.

I'm going through my indie books and liveblogging them on Tumblr. I'm also going to leave a review of each book I read.
