All companies have been doing this since before you were born.

Capitalism has never been about anything other than profits for the capitalists that own the means of production.

If you think they care about any of us, you can come work for me.

Happy new year! Wouldn't have thought of this otherwise. #software

I don't understand this concept.

Yes, they spent trillions on the Cold war. The USSR dissolved so that Russia could become who they are now so we *could* work with them.
Did the United States really spend trillions of dollars on winning the Cold War, only for its president in 2025 take orders from a Russian dictator?

This is an earth-shattering humiliation for America of which its reputation may never recover.

I mean, I can go on hugging face and prove you wrong right now.

This is like saying FOSS (specifically the GPL) is a tool of capitalists.

No, it exists in spite of the owning class.
for the love of god, AI systems aren't "just tools that are neither good nor evil in and of themselves". AI systems *are* tools of capitalism. they exist as tools of capitalism. there is no AI system "in and of itself" outside of capitalism

Shit is so confusing. Capitalists have made the world a worse place.

Life is short, we should be using AI to automate our lives so we can live. But in the same breath, you want people wasting their lives for a capitalist.

Make it make sense.

They took over before I was born. What was I gonna do? I was born in the early 80's when Reagan was already in office. It was already over.
Anybody else wish the criminals running the country were just a bit smarter so we wouldn’t look quite so idiotic for allowing them to take over the country?

I install macOS on my ThinkPad as a joke, not thinking I'm going to keep it around for more than a day. I start poking around at Swift because it's never piqued my interest as I've not had a Mac or been in the Apple ecosystem.

Now I find this language clicking more than any others.

The people that think this have no concept of the hardware needed for crypto mining.

I assure you, that's its own issue. It's not this though.

People should embrace an abundance, post-scarcity mindset. We are on the cusp of having the tech to make it possible.

So much sociopolitical strife comes from competition over limited resources.

We short-circuit this by making enough that everyone can live well.

*laughs in Linux*
….yes it does?

also, sorry? Obviously newer software is not going to work on your crusty MacBook Air running an unsupported release of macOS. Come on now.

This is why it's important to support open source software.

Limewire uses BitTorrent and Gnutella on the backend to share files.

BitTorrent markets itself as a free speech tool.

And Gnutella is so decentralized, all they have ever had is a forum.

I used BearShare back in the day too.
Bringing back Limewire to illegally rip copies of reporting suppressed by the government is definitely some cyberpunk shit

I would really like those same workers to use those technologies to automate capitalism out of existence.
It's not a coincidence that the biggest advocates and bootlickers for AI are politicians, CEOs, and billionaires, not employees or actual artists.
December 18, 2025 at 6:21 AM
Which is, of course, the way it's always been. Capitalists have never been your friend.
The only people taking jobs away from Americans are billionaires who want to automate

Other companies keep the companies that control us in business.
How the hell is Microsoft still a company?

I mean this is in the nicest way possible: I'll care in 100k miles.
As Indiana Jones says, “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.” Our EV passed its 24,000-mile checkup with flying colors. 👍

Bro, this is in my 2005 Prius.
Freaking LOVE being able to adjust the air con without looking, thinking or interrupting the tunes. When I come to power this will be in EVERY car. 😁
