Ok team, we can bring these words back into usage! 💪

Overmorrow = the day after tomorrow

Ereyesterday = the day before yesterday

We ahould have been using such excellent words ereyesterday, but if we start now we’ll be glad overmorrow!
You can be the change you want to see in the English language!
So long as we get ereyesterday back too! Words need their inverses!

1995, studying in Prague for a year. I went to Bucharest by myself, fully intending to shell out for a hotel since there wasn’t a lot of backpacker-level tourist infrastructure yet. Showed up to the hotel to check in & the desk clerk took one look at me and said “You can’t stay here.”
I would like to hear about a time someone, a stranger even, was very kind to you without any prompting, ulterior motive, or strings attached.

Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao

I simply cannot take popularism remotely seriously when nobody involved even tries to answer the question "what happened to keir starmer"

at best they point to a few policies they don't like, but "move right on social issues and immigration" is his main platform and look what fucking happened!
Keir Starmer was the model for centrists and popularists who insisted that moving right on issues, especially immigration, is how you win at politics.

Wonder if there will ever be any self-reflection here! Ah well nevertheless

I cannot think of a time in my life when billionaires have been more powerful, dangerous, and openly contemptuous of anyone other than themselves, so this sounds about right for a modern-day Yglesias post
The perfect Yglesias post: declaring “billionaires are good, actually,” as if it was some bold, counterintuitive take.

this is correct, though

if you're gonna do it then do it, I don't want romances written because someone wants to check the box I want romances written by sickos with decade-old AO3 accounts
Anyway this won't be popular but I think the worst videogame romance subplots are very clearly the ones where the studio felt skittish and uncomfortable about writing romance instead of diving head first into it like the ao3 fanfic writers they should be

Flu antivirals don't kill the virus—they stop it from replicating. That's why the "take within 48 hours" guidance isn't arbitrary: every hour you wait means more virus for your body to deal with. Here's how to test at home and get treatment fast ⤵

This is why "waiting to see if it gets worse" is a problem.

Viral replication is exponential. By the time you feel "sick enough" to go to urgent care, you may have missed the window to keep that curve small.

Test fast. Treat fast. Deny the virus that AUC.

all bluesky not having an algorithm means is that all the adhd hyperfocus sickness of the mind posters finally don't get deboosted anymore; free of our shackles we can force everyone to read 50000 posts about blorbo a day every day
could be wrong but I think people took bluesky not having an algorithm to mean you can just post whenever and run and accumulate however many likes you believe you deserve

but no, you still gotta engage with others and be a part of the community

*full body cringe* Ok, I take it back, there IS a worse scenario than having AI write your novel.
I don't know how many times it needs to be said that you absolutely should not let fucking "AI" anywhere near your legal contracts, either in creating them or evaluating them, but apparently it needs to be said at least one more time, so allow me to say it again, here, right now

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

a lot of the worst effects of AI have been kind of mundane but the AI girlfriend stuff feels right out of a cyberpunk dystopia
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.
