Our culture is baked in layers of irony and subtext. It can be exhausting to deal with. I just had a friend send me a racist dog whistle ENTIRELY by accident. It was easily resolved but it reminded me that purity testing friends isn't a good idea, dog whistles work because many DON'T know the memes.
