Thanks for sharing this document, @rweingarten.bsky.social.

I read it, and I believe it's inexcusably inadequate and will not prepare teachers or schools to confront the very real dangers of the "A.i." products pushed by your partners, including OpenAI.

A few thoughts for your consideration...

"Engaging students with AI-driven projects encourages creativity, critical thinking and hands-on experience with advanced technologies."

No. "A.i." products DESTROY creativity by telling kids their own minds and thoughts and hands are inadequate for producing worthwhile writing and art.

"Schools must adopt effective filters to block inappropriate or misleading content."

What filters block misleading content from ChatGPT? Is there a "no disinfo" or "no faked citations" or "no hallucinations" filter?

There is not. This is poisoned tech. You have to block the entire product.

The document says, "Educators must learn how they can use AI to simplify their working lives."

Now you are demanding teachers use "A.i."

Educators don't need to use "A.i." Educators need to be paid more. Not to enrich corporations by using untested, dangerous "A.i." products.

"Elected officials must ensure that funding for technology
and training is readily at hand. Schools must allocate those funds in ways that prioritize student learning."

No. Elected officials must increase the number of teachers and their pay, and fund arts programs. "A.i." should get no money.

You are painting a vision of a future in which teachers create lessons with "A.i.," students complete them with "A.i.," and teachers grade them with "A.i."

No learning takes place under this system.

The only benefactors of this system are the corporations being paid for the "A.i." products.

At various points, the document gives lip service to the need to educate students about the possibility of disinformation or other harms. But it puts all of the responsibility for this on teachers, not on the billionaires pushing this miserable tech. This is an anti-teacher document, in my opinion.

It's really remarkable how much we hate kids as a society. When they have harmless fun we tell them that they're going to hurt themselves, but when *they* tell us that they're going to hurt themselves, we tell them to toughen up.
It's so fucked up to have been a kid during the D&D is the devil freakout and the Tipper Gore dirty lyrics freakout and live to see the teen suicide machine get such a pass.

The U.S. has conducted 19 strikes on alleged drug-carrying boats, killing at least 76 people.

Remember: no judge or jury has found these boats were trafficking drugs. We're simply taking Trump's word for it.

He’s unilaterally acting as judge, jury, and executioner.

This is a danger to us all.

The MBS/Oval Office/ABC/"Fake News" thing today. I wasn't aware till I saw it on TV. I was downstairs, my (adult) daughter upstairs. I started shouting "F*ck off. F*ck off you disgusting piece of sh*t".
It's harrowing being on the same planet with him. It wears you down. It makes you ill.

except it’s not a preschooler, it’s a grown man, and that man is also the president, and it is deeply surreal and unsettling to freefall into the gulf between words that should come out of a president’s mouth and that word coming out of a president’s mouth

To me, that is the clear response to the gotcha of medical care for trans prisoners. We should not be the kind of society that denies medical care for prisoners as punishment, and particularly not based on them being an unpopular minority group.

The Trump administration is at war with the US Constitution/United States of America. The Roberts Six are co-conspirators.

Once we establish this as the problem then we can discuss how to handle traitors/enemy combatants.

Yeah the refusal to deal with the fact many are running leading institutions has led to a largely circular and unproductive discourse
The racists among us aren't just sitting in some trailers somewhere. They're doctors, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, cops, federal agents, lawmakers, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, and any other profession you can think of.

They are in every aspect of society.

Imani nails it again; yes, the violation of the promise of America is painful, but for those not sheltered by white privilege, the promise started out broken. Seems clear that white Americans across the political spectrum have had a tragic overestimation of the progress made towards repairing it...
"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

The New York Essential plan is being eliminated entirely next year due to the GOP healthcare cuts. People’s lives are at stake.

And that’s why we’re fighting back.

a deeply-held belief that I have no real evidence for: there’s a wide-open lane for a politics of old-school virtue and civility, applied in broadly progressive ways
I continue to think that one of the reasons this country is falling apart is the wholesale abandonment of public virtue as a broadly shared aspiration. Or even something people should be embarrassed about if they don’t have it.
Fuckin yikes, man
