I don't doubt that Trumpism will soon crumble and things will return to a seeming normal. But what worries me is whether we will again make the mistake of offering impunity to these degenerates because if so, we're just waiting around for fascism that sticks.
Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.

I’d forgotten that this song is used in School of Rock, which we rewatched last night for a break from the general bleakness. It’s one of my all-time favorites, a straight banger with a foreboding message. Even Joey Ramone could see the path we were on. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTxq...

Also, as @danahoule.bsky.social points out, one clear theme of ICE's little reign of terror is that they are EXTREMELY sensitive to murals, signs, and other displays criticizing ICE. Which means that one of the most effective ways to attack the agency is to produce those things in great numbers
ICE just posted this video taking down the sign in Mount Pleasant on Twitter.

also, support local journalism so they can do this!
The GOP passed a budget that will eviscerate health care in rural areas. They delayed much of the impact for after the midterms, hoping the public will think any discussion of the impending collapse is hyperbolic.
Local reporters have a chance to do service journalism that'll make a splash too.

Go back and rewatch watchmen anyway, be ause the cops-in-masks theme is gonna make you go "oohhhhhh. …Shit."
If you look at the 2019 watchmen series and somehow don't see a fullthroated and SCATHING critique of not only the culture of policing in the US, but also of US TV's very deep and persistent Copaganda problem, then you need to go back and rewatch watchmen.

The connection of the original Watchmen to a conversation about the racist history of the United States, in general, but Policing, the "Lost Cause" myth, and mid-20th century American support for Fascism, in particular? Frankly fucking masterful.

My wife and I play this game of pointing out strangers who look like famous people. Years ago in a bookstore in Philly, I nudged her and whispered “Jason Robards” and nodded toward a guy down the aisle. Then he spoke to someone in that unmistakable voice and we were too shocked to react.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
