I love markdown.
Been working on this one for a while — it's a little bit of history of a key foundation of internet technology, and a little bit of an explainer about how people _actually_ invent things. This is the amazing (true!) story of how Markdown took over the world. www.anildash.com/2026/01/09/h...

Holy shit it’s finally happening. I have come so close to cutting a hole in the fence: it’s been safe to cross for a long while now!
Big news, even if it's been in place for a year and is subject to a future closure. This will eliminate a 200 metre detour and better connect the Junction Triangle neighbourhood.

Grok's issue is far, far worse than "put a bikini on her." There are huge groups of people on Telegram making it do far worse, then sharing how they did it. It truly is a nonconsensual sexual abuse material machine:

The US has transformed from a (sorta) functioning democracy into a poster regime, a rogue troll state, fueled by internet clout. And the abduction of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro is likely just the beginning.

Trying to read Hamlet, since I missed reading it in high school, and I just saw Hamnet. I bought this copy a couple years ago, after watching Station 11, which also features a lot of Hamlet.

Reading without all the footnotes is hard.

News today about the Ontario Science Centre: Its "temporary location" will take over most, or possibly all, of Harbourfront Centre.

86,000 square feet is a larger fraction, if not all, of Harbourfront's buildings.
