Ok I know this is old-man irritability but I don’t care if Mahmoud Khalil has a pregnant wife, I don’t care if he and his wife are childfree, I don’t care if he’s in a fucking polycule with a hedgehog and a jar of mayonnaise, NOBODY should be detained for protected speech, including singletons.

this, though i would also note: there are those of us who are in fact just liberals. i get that the left thinks this is bad, but also they are wrong. but that's okay! it's fine for there to be collegial disagreements within the antifascist coalition!
A ton of good people with great politics identify as liberals because they’re not extremely online and are unaware some on the left think being a liberal a bad thing to be.

I think it’s stupid as shit to use “liberal” as an insult that makes those people catch strays and confuses them right now.

the trend towards monopoly and corruption also explains the hostility to liberalism. the thing about liberal neutrality is that it is an obstacle to the kind of patronage relationships that are facilitated by corruption.

God, they’d hate that. If you just kept taking hormones. Kept being gay in public. Got someone to an abortion they needed. Kept being a goddamn liberal because being a goddamn liberal isn’t something you believe in because of the winning percentage.

I think what I want from social media is mostly late-2000s facebook where i was mostly telling jokes with IRL friends and not trying to play amateur pundit for a bunch of strangers all the time. But then, maybe what I actually miss is being 23.

NEW: Tuesday is NJ's *first* Dem primary without "county line" since bombshell ruling that struck it down.

Change came from grassroots revolt against Tammy Murphy, & it's now jumpstarting democracy thru NJ.

Great read on these green shoots of democracy: boltsmag.org/new-jersey-p...
A Revamped Ballot Design Jumpstarts Democracy in New Jersey
Tuesday’s primaries are a window into a possible new era in New Jersey politics—one where party bosses are a touch less powerful and primaries are more competitive.

There was a time when Larry Lessig was pushing the concept of "soft corruption," which was actions that everyone looking from the outside would say "that's corrupt," but didn't meet the legal definition.

Point being: such things do real harm to institutional credibility.

We literally have the 250th anniversary coming up in 2 years. Small museums, reenacting groups, regular Liberal people that care about our history are constantly dealing with the fallout of Conservatives trying to claim the symbols of our heritage and media just letting them have it unquestioned.

So sure, violent revolution ("1776 baybee!!!" as Alex Jones would say) is part of our national heritage...but the idea that one of the 9 most powerful people in the country was so oppressed by a Joe Freaking Biden administration that it justified grabbing one's musket while Appealing to Heaven is...

This is huge, but it isn't the finish line! This ruling only applies to this primary race. We can't count on future rulings expanding this decision to all races. NOW is the time to call your NJ reps and demand legislation to end the county line system once and for all.

This is such a basic understanding of Monopolies that it's flat out wrong. A company doesn't need to have 100% control of a market to effectively have monopoly power in that market. You're literally talking here about a company that controls over 50% of the market. They require full scrutiny.

This article from an Apple fan, whining about the antitrust suit against Apple, is so ridiculous. He even admits that Apple policies are "far from perfect on the inclusivity front", "almost always decide in favor of itself and its own businesses", and "imperial".

It's great to see so many outlets covering the actual issue of NJ's awful and unfair ballot design. This is a good link to share with your NJ friends and family who have a blind spot for state level politics.

It is about time someone with Stewart's reach points out what is clear to anyone reading about American political history.

If the GOP wants to trace its ideological origins to the American Revolution, they should be honest about which side they would have been on.
