The whiplash from blaming the extreme militant antifa assassin/gun-banning, trans, immigrant left to feeling sorry for a lost white boy (grown ass man) is extraordinary…

Please get over this fever soon, America. You need to heal something real bad.

She called for innocent people to be burned alive.
Reform welcomed her with a rapturous ovation.

Revolting.

Lucy Connolly was convicted of inciting racial hatred, and her tweet was part of the tinder that lit violence, intimidation, looting, and thuggery across England last year.

The fact Reform conference gave her a standing ovation says everything about that movement.

The Martyrdom of Saint Lucy
The right is desperately seeking to make a martyr out of Lucy Connolly in order to distract from the real victims of the hate she helped to spread, argues Otto English

If you can’t see how attacking this could have hugely dangerous implications for every single person living in the UK irrespective of citizenship or immigration status, I do not know what to tell you.
Article 8 - Right to respect for private and family life
1. Everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence.
2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

In a sane, normal country, Lucy Connolly would be treated as a contemptible extremist. Not in Britain. But then this is no longer a sane, normal country. Britain has lost its moral bearings

A nation which makes a martyr out of Lucy Connolly has lost its moral bearings
BURN them in their hotels, she said. And try to burn them in their hotels they did.

Someone who I assumed was in their early 30s noted in a post elsewhere that they were a full decade beyond that age, which reinforced the idea to me that I can no longer accurately assess anyone's age anymore, adult humans exist only in two categories: "My age and older," and "indeterminate young."

"Age verification" laws are actually "upload your ID or get your face scanned to access every website, ending anonymity and associating your identity with everything you do online" laws and if more people understood that they would not be down for this authoritarian nonsense

Is there any explanation for how we went from half of parliament and the whole national press up in arms - roaring that even a suspicion of racism is utterly unacceptable and those accused must be destroyed - to shrugs and awkward coughs as the main parties fight to do Enoch Powell speeches loudest.

I haven't read it yet, so maybe there's more to it than this review says... but it sure doesn't *sound* like a particularly "bold reinvention" if it's taking a concept from Discovery, bringing a popular TOS character back to life, and making the Klingons the villains *again.*

‘Star Trek: The Last Starship’ #1 is a thrilling reinvention that takes chances
Boldly charts new territory, delivering a darker, riskier vision of the Federation that feels both raw and refreshingly new.

UK: What if everyone had masked up? Analysis of app data has the answer:
"Respirators would have dropped the rate of COVID transmission by an estimated factor of 9, compared with 0.6 for surgical masks. A factor of 9 is enough to put SARS-COV-2 into exponential decay!

What if everyone had masked up? Analysis of app data has an answer
Modelling study based on almost 250,000 positive COVID-19 tests in the United Kingdom shows that universal masking could have cut transmission markedly.

there's an episode of The Simpsons where Marge tries to get a violent cartoon pulled from the airwaves, only to discover that the people backing her aren't going to stop at just the art that *she* doesn't like, and that supporting artistic freedom means accepting discomfort.

It aired in 1990.

Nuanced polling shows the complexity of opinion, compared to opinion-directing polling and reporting that seeks to oversimplify immigration debates to suit the aims of Farage etc. @mrjamesob.bsky.social @lbc.co.uk

This is a key table to understanding public opinion on migration. *When confronted with the real trade offs* people go for protecting the NHS and the economy over reducing migration.

The problem as per the rest of the thread is many don't believe those trade offs exist.
yougov.co.uk
When presented economy vs immigration trade-offs, Britons typically opt for economic benefit over lower migration

Those who support requiring large nos of migrants to leave would pick fully staffing NHS over reducing immigration, but economic arguments hold less sway

This weekend thousands of people in the UK stood up against racists and far-right thugs only to have representatives of a nominally leftwing government support, enable and empower the racists. Why do you not hear the worries of those trying to protect minority rights and liberal democracy?
