A close look at Truss's legal threat to Starmer

The former Prime Minister has sent a glorious but seemingly hopeless cease-and-desist letter

With December crime stats for London (Metropolitan Police) published today, I've had a quick look at homicide trends since 2003. Provisionally, the 105 homicides in 2024 was the lowest annual total since 2014 and second lowest in the last 22 years. #crimestats

I'm not an intelligence/ security specialist but can Five Eyes possibly survive a situation where the US openly threatens Canada and wages a hate campaign against the UK? They'll probably want to annex New Zealand next. And the director-designate of national security is a Russian propagandist.

‘´The online right picks and chooses its concerns. Where are the calls for inquiries into the Church of England? English public schools? Or any number of British institutions and groups which have had child abuse scandals over the last decade?’

Excellent article here
Have written about Starmer's speech- his best moment yet as PM. He implicitly identified what sits at the heart of this story: the emergence of a common UK/US online right, headed by the radicalised Musk.

It is making extremist, until recently fringe politics mainstream in British conservatism.

And the Powellisation of conservative thought

Literally all they had to do was calmly condemn Musk’s dishonest & inciteful attack on their parliamentary colleague, Jess Phillips. And they couldn’t even manage that. Absolutely shameful.

So good, just so good. Musk is a lunatic and twitter is done for
Here's Farage on #LauraKuenssberg calling Musk "a hero" whose endorsement made his party "look cool."

Less than 3 hours later, Musk said he should be replaced.

NEW: South Korea’s president has declared martial law in an unplanned late night TV address. He accused the opposition of controlling the parliament and having North Korean sympathies.

Badenoch Powell proving again how unfit she is which is going to be glorious. Not even the slightest effort to fact check her own nonsense
Kemi Badenoch tells Keir Starmer that "we had a Budget in March this year and tractors were not blockading the streets of Whitehall afterwards."

Anyway, here's the 'go slow' protest by farmers that blockaded the streets around Parliament following the Conservative Government's last Budget in March

Of course, the big difference between this protest and the recent one is that the big Tory-supporting landowners did not join in as they do not actually care about farming and it got almost no media attention because it was aimed at a Tory government not a Labour one.

Saw an old friend last night. Back in 2016 our conversations got a little dicy when he became something of a fervent Brexiter...

In pub he suddenly volunteers to me: "Brexit was a shit idea wasn't it. I mean - a really shit idea."

I think we may be entering the time frame where people accept that.
