For context (a thread!): I left media in 2022 after more than 18 years in freelance/staff newsroom roles, working primarily as a critic, feature writer, business analyst, editor, and reporter. Heaviest focus areas included games, consumer tech, film/TV, geek culture, and web culture.

Clearly it's an immersive sim and you, the killer, devise elaborate person-sized mousetraps to rack up a body count. Like Accidental Hitman. With some fun narrative possibilities for tackling the dissonance in the way those "accidents" are actually purposeful.

Yes! A long-ago ex is from Arcata and she gave me a thorough education over the years. I'm sure it's changed a lot. Politics were in the mix back then but it was much more lumber concerns vs conservationists/locals. Growers weren't even in that picture really because it was pre-recreational.

Arcata, CA and various points nearby in deeeeeeep northern California. Beautiful area of the state and a cute little hippie town but not super safe for hiking (at least as of 15 years ago) due to unclear borders on local grow operations and unwell locals who live off the land.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.

“Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: adeath toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.

These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.”
