This is such a depressing must read. This "lake life" tourism needs to be better regulated.
Be active in you community, engage with your local chamber of commerce to learn about the businesses in your area. I've completely stopped going out to eat at franchises and only go to local restaurants.

This is such a great point. Also, amazon has filters users can toggle with to display Canadian owned businesses. Another platform that offers location based filtering for business and products is Etsy.
