Anyone else ‘giggling’ at the I OWN my family home (in a Trust) outcries …. um, YOU don’t own it, the Trust does … YOU chose not to own it and have it in a Trust (or company). I don’t know the details of the CGT, just having a wee grin at some of the rhetoric.

My personal view: capital gains tax should be paid when property NOT the family home passes to the estate or inheritors. Person ‘sold’ it effectively on day of death. On the family home, NO CGT until after it is ‘sold’ to estate on day of death, but yes to CGT from that day.
