My training is in quantitative genetics. People attempting and failing to justify eugenics is the history of the field. Dawkins trying to do the same with his "meme" concept is no different, and likely to result in the same, "your data suggested the opposite of your conclusions" as eugenics.

I bring that up mostly to suggest that what we in dominant western culture may view as Trans may be understood entirely differently in other cultures, societies, or time periods. Understanding human behavior and identity across time and cultures is therefore not amendable to reductive thinking.

We should also beware when people are confusing cultural context with human biology. I periodically see people (often from other fields) try to model why humans are monogamous, in like a genetic sense. Human relationship structure is heavily dependent on culture.

People also have a tendency to recycle eugenics ideas with humans despite repeated scientific rejection. Eg, almost all evidence says heritable genetic variation for intelligence in humans is negligible. Yet periodically, people try again to suggest it is again and push eugenics.

While that can be a useful model for understanding some phenomena, it isn't for understanding others. He often tries to reduce variation to adaptations too (he can be a pan-adaptationist), and that's a pretty outdated mindset. That's also likely part of what's creating some of the tension from him.

Evolutionary biologist here. Life is messy and complicated and that's part of what makes it so wonderful to study. You are probably listening to a small but extremely vocal group of people like Dawkins, who have morphed the selfish gene concept into culture via memes.

Please. He abducted himself. The dude he was attempting to kidnap tried to push him out of the car and then they drove him to a police station while on the phone with 911. How many kidnappers try to push their kidnapees out of the car, call 911, or drive to a police station? Very few I'd wager

To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

The street thing is reference to a small group of vocal people who are upset with the plans to update Summit Ave (which has a lot of expensive real estate) with things like a protected bike lane.

There is a small group of extremely vocal people who keep trying to make silly things issues. A few years ago the city decided to coordinate trash pickup, rather than everyone contracting their own. That literally went to the ballot. This year we are deciding if the city can issue fines.

This year we are deciding if our city is allowed to enforce municipal ordinances, or if we will stick with our current system of solemnly shaking our head in disapproval.
