I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

If you haven't read this trilogy, you really should. Just magnificent and very queer
genevalangeland.bsky.social
Witchmark and the rest of @clpolk.blacksky.app's Kingston Cycle are excellent fantasy set in a post-WWI flavored world! Full of good-hearted characters busting down unfair systems to build a better society, with a sweet splash of queer romance.

Just devoured Soulstar (third in trilogy after Witchmark and Stormsong) from @clpolk.blacksky.app and DAMN, what excellent and timely stories.

(also can we get some elf-angels to show up and put holy terror in the hearts of a certain corrupt government, please and thank you)

Last month, two paddleboarders had to be rescued in Lake Superior, two miles from shore. One had never paddleboarded before -- neither wore a life jacket. Thankfully their story had a happy ending. Increase your odds of a safe paddling trip by learning to evaluate/respond to weather:
Flipping your kayak or paddleboard in open water not always a laughing matter
Knowing basic safety skills will help paddlers stay safe no matter what type of water they venture on.

My native plants have popped out so many seeds this fall, and I'm giving them away like people pass out excess zucchinis

There have been two hosts in the history of Reading Rainbow. The Legend of Literacy, LeVar Burton! And... me, Mychal Threets, a librarian 🥹🤯

I am a reader, a librarian because LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow made us believe and see we belong in books, we belong everywhere ✨

Smiling Mychal with hands raised wears an outer space shirt in a library. It is a still from an episode of Reading Rainbow. LeVar Burton smiles with hands behind his head as he lies down on a colorful pile of books. ENEMY PIE book rests on his chest.

Winter is approaching and I'm considering purchasing a Lenny Kravitz scarf. The Chicago winter has broken the spirits of many. I want to lug around a big ol blanket and call it clothes. I am prioritizing comfort this year and that means wearing a comforter to work.

I'm visiting my 2yo niece and newborn nephew this weekend. My niece is regularly hitting the roof because she's not allowed to drag a stool over to the kitchen sink and splash endlessly in the faucet 🤣

Every Good Thing we do for each other isn't good because it is legal; it's good because it is just. if you haven't already, it's worth reorienting your alignment from what is lawful to what is moral - we're being called to stand for each other in this moment

For all of us who work in institutions... consider what your lines are. Know where you will not cross; say it out loud, write it down, hold yourself to it. Keep those holding their lines lifted up, because it helps each of us resist silent capitulation. I endeavor to own my choices.

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.
