Told a coworker about Murderbot; she hasn't read 'em yet but told me today she'd heard about the TV show. Pulled up an article about it; she saw Skarsgard in the SecUnit armor & immediately went, "oh! it's a person?" Me like "well...yes and no?" Kinda hit on a major theme of the whole series there.

More thoughts about "Alien Clay," because like damn. Firstly, if you've read Tchaikovsky before, this book absolutely is recognizable as his style and interests; it's doing some of the same things "Children of Time" and sequels does but tightly packed into one book vs three. (1 of ?)

I just finished "Alien Clay" by @aptshadow.bsky.social and really the only initial review I can give is holy shit. I will have more thoughts later but honestly like holy SHIT. (In the best of ways.)

we are depriving generations of kids of the formative experience of stumbling upon some weird horny sci-fi or fantasy book that was absolutely not written for them, which is the kind of thing that makes reading feel exhilarating, like you are unlocking the grownup world’s fun secrets
"well as long as it's age appropriate" no fuck you guys actually, i read adult books when i was 12 and now i'm weird as hell, as i SHOULD be

Friday reads: I am re-reading "Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson, a book which most certainly rewards a second (or third, or more) read. Knowing about how the events unfold makes me engage satisfyingly differently with the start and middle. #fridayreads

You're not too old to start over, and you're not too old to learn new things. The time passes anyway; why not let it pass while enriching yourself and having fun?

I've always loved a good anthology; a whole collection of stories? Like a dragon hoard. "Year's Best Fantasy & Horror" was my holy grail as a wee me. If it had Jane Yolen, Tanith Lee, Patricia McKillip, Ursula Le Guin -- I knew I was in for a good time. Might need to revisit those collections, too.

Here’s the part of my bookshelves I’m going to (re)visit for a while, I think. Tanith Lee.

I need to pull out some of my Tanith Lee books; I think I have the Secret Books of Venus series sitting there waiting for me to revisit.
I miss elaborate painted book covers.

I didn't know about Gaiman, of course, and this isn't saying I did, or even that I could have or should have. But in the wake of it I keep thinking about something which was once just a funny little story and now feels very icky retrospectively. [Thread]

No single piece of queer media can do everything, nor should it have to. We need more to be as messy or basic or nuanced or conflicted as being queer is. Withholding support because something isn’t perfect - especially in these times - won’t get us to the expansive views we want.
So, uh… I wrote about Taash being non-binary and how I feel we need to start establishing a difference between “harmful” and “not how I’d have done it”.

This was a hard story to write, tbh, and I remain anxious about how it’s gonna play.

I think the most important piece of new canon lore from #veilguard is that mozzarella sticks exist in Thedas. Hawke absolutely needs to depression-eat a whole plate of those at 3 am. #datv #dragonage

The Lion in Winter is my favorite Christmas movie apart from Hogfather and I don’t want to debate either one.

Except to hear your agreement.

Love them or gfy.

The color orange is named for the fruit, not the other way around.

Up until ~1500 AD, English speakers used "red" for all shades of red and orange, which is why we say red hair, red deer, or robin redbreast.

So why did it change in the 16th century?
